Hello

I've just enrolled. I'm Bob Dubery, I live in Johannesburg. I don't play for a living. Some might say that I don't play or that I am just playing at playing ? Kit? My number one guitar is a Morgan OM - spruce top, rosewood back and sides. Fantastic tone. It has a Baggs active element under the saddle. Sounds pretty good plugged in. Backup/taking to braai guitar is a Taylor Big Baby. I am fortunate enough to be waiting for a guitar from Mervyn Davis. One of his smoothtalkers. I have had problems with nerve entrapment and with "tennis elbow", so this guitar may eventually incorporate an ergonomic modification - probably the "wedge" that Linda Mazner pioneered. Style? I dunno. I play for self-accompaniment. Some finger style, some with pick. Some with a hybrid pick-and-fingers style, though the physio says this is a good way to wreck an elbow.

soooooo How about that pub then .........

Ultimately, biography is an attempt to make whole the artefacts of a life, but it must not be mistaken for the disorderly actuality that is a life. It is merely a hint, an approximation, a shadow, something weak and pale, even in the hands of the finest biographer. - not written by me but delightfully descript..... the views or perceptions are therefore... his, yours, theirs and mine....

Most Musos from that era were experimenting with all sorts of "stuff " to induce creativity and to cope with hectic road show /recording schedules which caused the memorable bizarre , sure it continues today but its less noticeable......also most of them were living on the bone of their butts until they started their own labels and studios.

"about him and George Harrison having a guitar shoot out for some girl" Man has, and will continue to do crazy things to get the girl, I can remember taking part in a few myself..... I am sure many of you can think of a few too ....... ?

Doing crazy things to impress a girl is one thing. Treating her like a chip in a poker game is quite another.

I don't know where this guitar shoot out story comes from (tabloid journalism). I read Clapton's biography, unless I was completely stoned at the time the story goes as follows. George Harrison and Eric Clapton were friends. George married Patty Boyd. Eric fell in love with Patty, they had a brief affair but Patty did not want to leave George. Eric took to drugs because Patty would not leave George. Eric wrote Layla as a love song to Patty. George and Patty's marriage deteriorated for reasons unrelated to Eric so they got divorced. Patty and Eric got married but that also didn't work and they ended up divorced a few years later. George always knew about Eric's love for Patty but chose not to say anything. Eric and George remained good friends until Georges death.

The only thing that could be remotely construed as a guitar "shoot out" IMO is that George asked Eric did the solo on "While my guitar gently weeps" and Eric asked George to do his famous Leslie arpeggio part in "Badge"

Well I did read it in one of the papers in the UK (can't remember which one). It was a serialisation, IIRC from Clapton's biog. Patti Boyd/Harrison confirmed the story.

Can't be. I read it in one of the British papers. Probably The Guardian, The Times or The Independent - those being the ones I read most often when in those parts.
