My 3 y/o and a set of drums

I bought my recently turned 3 year old a set of junior Stagg drums. These are pukka drums and not the play play variety but are junior and meant for his age group. He seems enamoured by them and goes an bangs them every now and again.....

Question i have , is 3 years old to young to tutor?

Not at all! However you will see that the benefit is not the learning of a musical instrument, but rather the improvement of hand-eye coordination, concentration and other areas such as language. Many nursery schools add music to the activities for this very reason.

As long as you use the tutoring to develop and stimulate the child, and not to put emphasis on learning a skill, it will be of great benefit IMO!

Keeping it "fun" and exciting within a 3 year old's short concentration span will be the biggest hurdle...

Dude, maybe we should get together - my 3 year old loves the drums (albeit the plug into the computer touch sensitive variety) and always has to strum a song on the guitar when she sees me playing - maybe there's something in it? A toddler rock-band! (We could become very, very rich!) ?

I would'nt be too concerned about tutoring at this age, just let him have fun now. Everything else will come in time. You will "know" when to get a teacher...

3 years is not to young, but bear in mind that progress is slower so that he might be on par with someone who starts at 4 by the time both reach 5.
These kids are so cute however, it's enough of an excuse to be able just to wach them!
My only concern at such a young age is that the kid might loose interest at a time when one cannot reason with them about benefits of a long term commitment, etc.
Don't presurise him in any way...
