Judas Priest

Squonk

After listening to Bob Dylan's John Wesley Harding on Friday and in particular
The Ballad of Frankie Lee and Judas Priest, it piqued my interest

Chucked in Sad Wings of Destiny and it's good stuff!

Whiskey woman don't you know
That you are drivin' me insane

Maybe I am just a bit too old (School) but this stuff rocks, listening to Victim of Changes, already played it 3 times.
Rob Halford had some serious lungs

Just listened to a live version of Victim of Changes from Metal works 73-93, awesome stuff, Glen and KK are pumping it here.

Still sounds as fresh as the day I first heard it, circa 1976.

Any other Priest fans out there?

EDIT listening to Painkiller, the metalhead in me is awakening 8)

Sad Wings of Destiny was my favourite Judas Priest album, when I was in high school I raided all my brothers LPs when he left home and I played that album to death. I dig the opening track Tyrant, I used to listen to that over and over. Victim of changes is such a mellow track, I recently downloaded the tabs for it because I wanted to see how easy it would be to learn ?, but really good album over all. The Ripper is also quite a hectic song for the time.

Now that I thik about it I have the Killing Machine LP as well...

Painkiller is such a heavy track (There are a few brilliant covers of it as well out there, one in particular by Death...)

Judas Priest were the thinking man's metal i reckon.

Fior me Stained Glass is one of the greatest albums ever made.....

The leather biker image however i thought puerile

funny thing is their hits are prolly their weakest songs

What I remember most about Judas Priest (other than winning some phone in quiz to do with the origins of their name) is two very heavy covers they did.

One was Fleetwood Mac's "Green Manalishi". The other was (IIRC) "Better by me, better than you" and who did that originally? Spooky Tooth?

IMO it was JP and Iron Maiden that put new life into serious heavy metal

Priest is definitely in my top 10 favourite bands of all time. I saw them in Greece 2004, I flew there because it was the Halford reunion show and Queensryche was performing the entire operation mindcrime album. I also met Glen and KK, two of the most underrated guitarists ever and the ultimate guitar duo.

Green Manalishi cover by JP is sublimely brilliant .... Better by me better than you did not know that was a cover ..... another great song ...blood on the window sillllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll oh wow ..flashback time

as metnioend Stained GLass is indelibly printed on my grey matter ...after about 20 years of not listening to the album i gave it a twirl about 18 months ago and i recalled every word , every rif .....do you have to die to be a hero...... man oh man

Hammeron

Yea! To me Priest were thee first true Metalband.
another great cover they did was Baez's 'Diamonds and rust'.
I really like 'Killing Machine' which was released locally as 'Hell bent for Leather', minus the 'Green Manalishi' if I am not mistaken.
Check out 2005's DVD 'Rising in the East', phenomonally brilliant!!!

Don't forget "Johnny Be Goode" ?

Amen, I have so much respect for priest...............lifestyle choice don't mean sh*t to me.

I know Tipton plays the Hamer GT Phantom, he plays fenders and SG's as well, didn't know that Downing played Hamer though......

this is fr*kkin killer ? . a vibrant heavy metal post on gfsa. and all 'bout judas priest too. lord have mercy it dont get no better ? . "LIVIN' after midnight, ROCKIN till the dawn" ?

Desert plains and Bood Red Skies give me chills every time, amazing. Priest as songwriters are so versatile. As a trend setting band I think nobody could beat them(except maybe Sabbath, but that's another kettle of fish), after each album the sound of the metal scene changed accordingly but the priest albums would stay top. There was no such thing as power metal until Painkiller, after which thousands of bands copied the style but Painkiller is still the best. Each and every song on there, oh man..

Yep, both of them switched to Hamer.
If you watch the DVD -in the Classic album series- of the making of British steel you will see evidence of KK playing a Hamer.
You know this album was recorded at Tittenhurst park a house owned previously by Lennon and Ono.
And the regae intro to 'The Rage'! These guys were massive in every respect imagineable. In Metal, nothingcomes close.

Aaaaaaargh.... I can't get past the skinny production on the albums! I feel like I have to mentally fill in the "body" for the songs. I stick to concert clips to get an idea of how they really sound...
