Thinnest width?

What's the thinnest feasible width for an electric body? I have a piece of wood just over 30mm that I want to turn into a guitar...

Oh, I'm wanting to make a Firebird shape (which tends to be 40mm).

IMO 30mm should work fine, just work out your neck angle to ensure a nice action. The neck joint should be the trickiest bit. I'd be inclined to go with an angled approach ala gibson.My thinnest is 34mm, and its fine...

Why not just glue a nice bit of thin flamed maple in the middle to get it the right thinckness?

I think there is a subtle difference between thickness and width, but still the cap argument is there. In fact Firebirds are thicker than 40mm in the center...

Could be, according to the plans I have for the Gibson Firebird Studio its 40mm throughout.

But thanks Guido and Mike for your comments - that's always an option Mike if I see I need the extra thinkness

Was actually meant for Mike since the 'sticker' guitar has a piece in there for width rather than thickness. I'll stay out of your thead, sorry.

Checked mine, and you're right - about 35mm. I'm just worried that the sanding will make my block of wood too thin

Maybe find a 5 - 10 mm sheet of laminate to apply to the back or front, depending which looks the best :?
Although 30 mm should be fine if you don't sand too much.
