I never really thaught of a best guitar, but I think that some of the better brands arethose most widely used by great players, so I would vote for Fender and Gibson

None of them is "best", although some may be best for someone.
I think generally, the best guitars are currently being made by the smaller builders like Tom Anderson, John Suhr, Rudy Pensa, John Nash, Scott Lentz, D'Pergo, etc. Some of the Fender Custom shop master builders can hang with these guys too - in fact many of the small builders started at or worked for Fender CS at some point.
To be honest, you have to pick up everything and play it to find that individual guitar that speaks to you, regardless of what brand name is on the headstock. I've played everything that I could get my hands on through the years and even owned some very valuable collectables like '60s Strats, but for years I kept on coming back to my odd little Japanese Sanox. After 15 years of playing that, the guitar that finally replaced it as my "go-to" guitar was a Cort.

Allan did you vote for parker ?

No. Didn't vote for anyone.

I agree that it's not so much the brand as the individual guitar. As far as that goes, the best sounding, most playable, all-round most excellent gtr I've ever played is the Ernie Ball Musicman EVH signature model. Hands down, nothing has ever compared, before or since. Strangely, the Wolfgang wasn't near as good.
Satriani
For me, nothing can compare to Ibanez. Yes, Fender has the nicest CLEAN tone, Gibson Les Paul's have a beautiful warm thick tone, but their higher range guitars are simply not fairly priced, and I feel you get far more value for money from a simple Ibanez RG series. This is of course coming from me and my personal taste, as I must have a Floyd Rose System on any axe I play.
There are so many guitars out there, it's IMPOSSIBLE to say which is best, but I always say to myself, of all the virtuoso's out there, my top all use Ibanez. Yngwie Malmsteen uses a Fender which is so disgusting sounding live, it is almost unbearable to listen to (due to his scalloped neck). Eric Johnson is the saving grace of Fender when it comes to Virtuoso's in my opinion.
Satriani uses Ibanez, Vai uses Ibanez, Petrucci used Ibanez most of his career till he changed over to Music Man, Paul Gilbert uses Ibanez. They all play extremely diverse music, they are all masters of their instrument, so it gets me to thinking, why would someone at the top of their game use something other than the best? YEs, I know they personally designed their signature models, but I highly doubt Fender or Gibson would refuse Joe Satriani or Steve Vai a signature deal.
End of the day, Alan is right. Doesn't matter what your idol uses, you have to try many many different guitars as a beginner to see what feels 'right'. If it asks you to take it home, take it ?

I'm with Meir ;D
You got me hooked on Ibanez and now I just can't look at anything else.
Must say, Schecter's are real beauties and I'd love to try their C-1s at some stage.
