I recently got Jeff Beck's tribute to Les Paul on dvd. Good to see Jeff on a LP again.
Happy b'day Mr Polfus. A world without LP's would certainly have been a poor place.

an amusing les paul story ....

i was on a jazz guitar forum and read that ........at some interview with some or other jazz artist.the interviewer asked or rather said almost condesendingly ....."well who plays jazz on les paul these days ?" to which the artist replied... "urmmmm well les paul does"

also great memorial to leave behind , his family and loved ones knowing his name is on the headstock of one of the most popular and sought after guitars ever ....... same with Fender .....leo and les will live on by their creations....... and it's fabulous that they named them after themselves and not some arbitary brand name ..... . imortality i believe is achieved by these two men

Let's just bear in mind that Les did not design the Les Paul. Ted McCarty and his team did. Les put in a few suggestions that aren't even present on most LPs.

Les was an incredibly skilled guitar player, entertainer and inventor who live through much of the development of modern guitar music - once even taking a drunken Django Reinhard around in a taxi. He was influential musically on people like Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and many others.

But one thing he didn't do was design his signature guitar that makes his name well known to a great many people who've never so much as heard him play a lick.
