When i was searching for my valve amp, i tested out the valvetronix
To be fair, I think that's the problem there. If I had to translate it into an analogy, all you have done is drive a golf car on a race course and said "sorry four wheels aren't for me" because you're assuming that because that the Valvetronix is shitty that the rest of the tube amp world is too ?
There are only a hand full of bands that come out with decent sounding albums that haven't used valve amps, I'm positive that almost every band you listen to use a Valve amp. Not a Valvetronix for obvious reasons.
If you search up famous producers you'll see Tube amps (probably only tube amps) in their arsenal.
I only use tube amps and have never gotten a bad comment regarding my tone since I started using them.
Lol When a band comes to my studio holding a little combo roland cube/Marshall MG/Crate I tell them to leave it at the door and pray that someone is dumb enough to steal it so they can claim the insurance for a tube amp ?
EDIT: I'm gonna argue with myself and say that The valvetronix is actually a decent amp for cleans. Although the Ac30 is probably the better one but also costs 18k retail.
I'm really not trying to be rude, but I've heard people say that they're happy with their tone running a metalzone into a crate combo clean channel. That's understandable as they're probably really unsure as to what "good tone" is, and it's not really their fault as it takes time to form a true understanding of tone and how you use your guitar to make the amp do/sound what/like you want.
I use a use a Crate for it's only purpose...to help carry my beers. (stupid joke and stricly my opinion)
Digital only really works in the FX and recording side of things for me at least. But some people, still to this day, use tape and analogue gear in their studios.
Jens Bogren for example who produced the latest Opeth and Amon Amarth was done to tape and on an analogue SSL I believe.
I have more to say but I worry it might start getting offensive.
Peace
