Besides stewmac's binding glue (which they don't export outside US), can anyone recommend something that'll do the real number here, with a decent "open time" on plastic binding?
I've even called the "sticky questions" hotline, and have them in a quandary.
One or 2 luthiers here use super glue, but it's not forgiving, and does'nt have real fill-properties.

The acrylic "cements" modelmakers use are the same kind of thing - softens the plastic slightly, bonds really well and sets hard. They are basically just a clear acrylic resin with a keytone solvent.
Superglue works well, but can be more than a little tricky (you have to be quick). Also not advisable if you want to stain the wood as the overflow seals the wood and fills the grain. Great for binding repair though as it works as a finish filler.
Of course, hide glue is the traditional glue, but there's also quite a knack to using it...

Thanks Alan
I was concerned with superglue, as I will be staining the wood when done.
The stewmac binding glue contains methylene chloride, methyl ethyl ketone and acrylic resin, so your suggestion seems to be the closest.

If you plan to use supaglue then just wet the wood first seems to adhere better.
