Looking for a wood supplier in JHB and surroundings

well, yes, the title pretty much gets to the point, looking for a supplier of various woods for a little project I'll be doing (will like maple, kiaat and bubinga or a similar colour scheme) in the Johannesburg area.

I've found allot of places in the Cape on the web, and a place in Silverton, Pta that has got what I want, but alas, I'll be heading back to little old nothing land before I can get into that part of the world :'(.

Can someone please help me with a good wood supplier as close as possible to me please.

Okay, thanks to Ray's list in the post above I've visited webpages and phoned around and two companies who are very friendly and professional stood out for me, they are:

well I only inquired a couple of woods prices and Country woods preferred to email me their full price list (go figure) and from what I got back East African Woods' prices are good (hard and figured maple going at under R12000/m3 and kiaat and rosewood at R8500/m3 ), Country Woods is more expensive (hard maple going over R14000/m3 and kiaat starting at R9500/m3 ) but they have quite a larger range of rare exotic woods (bocote, zericote, ivories, ebonies, rosewoods, etc.) if I go there I'd probably end up in dept.

I haven't inquired about the grade of the woods though

I got my slab of mahog fro PNS timbers in Koedoespoort in Pretoria and paid about just under R10 000 per cube. I'm looking for some maple and was looking for some nice grains for a neck or two.

Looks like you got a good price on that slab, do you have a link or a number or such for me for that company please.

Just read your thread on the Kramer, looks like that's turning out sweet, props man. Where did you get veneering though? I'm struggling to find veneering. I could make my own from planks but what a hassle and waste and I don't know what to expect if I try to get the old machines running again back home, would rather just buy

Yeah, I'll have a good look at anything before I buy ofcourse, as long as it's from the same genus It's properties will be pretty much the same as any other of the rosewoods.

Late "wakker word" Edit: how do you know which rosewood I want ??? ?

PNS timbers are in the phone book, I don't think that they are that high tech to have a website........If you can hang on until tomorrow I'll forward you the number,

FX veneers in Pretoria are pretty much the only guys that do veneers, but they don't do anything thicker than 1.5mm. I went with a slab of budget pine at 18mm thick and then planed it down to 3mm. I still need to go out to jacques to get an even sanding done before I do the front, but overall I'm dead chuffed.

I'd do it this way again if I had the option.

I'd appreciate that, don't have a phone-book and Yellowpages on-line frustrates me, but if you don't get through I'll still find it some way or another.

So between the lines you're telling me to dust of the machines again ?
It's probably better because you can get exactly what you want out of it.
