Gig Intensity: Northern vs. Suburbs

So here is the question (thanks Rene):

Which side is the most active in terms of gigs/live music (originals or covers): Northern or Suburbs? I have little experience in the south, so hopefully someone who know both sides will take the lead here ?

Every time a get involved in a rock band and we can't get gigs everybody bitches that all the paying gigs are in the northern suburbs but the bands never seem to last long enough for anyone to pull their finger out and gig a nothern suburbs gig so it could just be a suburban legend. I have seen one group of old rockers like me doing well in the northern suburbs, a band called Back on Track that have a regular gig at Cheetah's

i've been outta touch 4 a while, but last time i checked they still played gigs at mercury most fri and thurs nites (or is that wed??). ROAR had some metal guys jammin a few weeks back, and durex battle of bands was pretty damn good... theres always baxter theatre for the more reformed members of society [cringe]

Most people prefer going to the southern suburbs. Places like Mercury, ROAR, Gandalph's and One Ring are always packed. Especially if you're into metal.
In the nothern suburbs Corner Bar draws quite a big crowd. They're in Durbanville. They have bands from metal to rock to punk, etc. There's a new place that opened in Bellville not too long ago that have recently started catering for bands. It's called Eye of Horus and has quickly become my new favourite spot. Once again, lot of metal music. ?

Very close to corner bar is a place called "Durbanville kunskafee", there is huge gigs every weekend(ok sometimes)

Well i will never go to kunskaffee again. I just don't like the fact that 10 year olds are allowed there with people getting drunk and smoking etc. Also makes you feel uncomfortable

I was there on saturday, and kind off changed things, they moved the bar away to a private area where only the guys with beards are welcome(ha ha , i'm joking)

I also think that under 18's shouldn't lead a life behind bars(ironic?)

Yea kunskafee has become quite the kiddies jol, even if the bar is seperate, I just feel so old when I go in there, and I'm just 27!

Haha my band played a gig at Kunskafee this weekend. Allot of kids ! But there was allot of bands that had high school members so their friends are always going to want to see them gig. And remember those are the guys that is going be bying your bands CD's in a few years. And there is no need to stay there and party with the kids. Whe just popped in to support the other bands.

I totally agree! Kunskafee used to be a nice place to hang out. Now there are all these kiddies hanging out there, getting drunk. I think Kunskafee is destroying itself. ?
