Best 3/4 size travel guitar
BluJu
Hiii. So lately I've been getting some GAS for a baby size acoustic to travel with. I tried a baby taylor out some years back and I remember it sounding pretty cool. Today I tried out some Martin and despite the heafty price tag (R9000 before discount) it didn't really impress. I know cort also make one but I haven't tried it. Any thoughts?

You might also look at the Breedlove offering -
there's one for sale on GFSA right now
(seller in KZN!).
The backpack Martins don't sound that great IMO but they are very portable.

ok , i'm also a travel fanatic and all my gear i buy is that way oriented........so the most important question is what kind off sound quality you looking for? cos that is the crux of the entire exercise ........ and in my humble opinion soon as you downsize an acoustic it sounds thin and ukelele'ish ( how do you spell that) even if it's a top end model with top class woods..... so if you never gonna actually record with it , or perform live on a big stage , then my opinin is to get a cheapie that can be damaged by elements/travel/ect
i was by chance in TOMS in braamfontein a short while back and made a great find of a cheap chinese made half size guitar so small enough to fit in a backpack ,with the neck sticking out of course , it had a shorter scale obviously being half size but the fabulous thing is he neck was the usual width ..... so it didn't feel like playing a kids guitar and it took no adjustment to play ....and sure the tone is thin but not bad if it's to mess around with while you on your boat cruising the islands...... and the best is they absolute cheapies as in they were marked at R700 ish and were in the bargain basement and i wangled it down to R250 ..it had a flaw hat i needed to file down the fret edges cos they were sharp but that took all of 15 min with a small file...... so depending if you want a high end travel guitar or just a travel guitar as in something that makes noise and is playable..... and this cheapie is so cheap if it's lost or stomped on by elephants while camping it's all good...... btw it was a classical /nylon guitar tho , but i'm sure they make half size steels too......... also the short scale makes the string tension even when at pitch nice and soft
anyway i love my little half size ,
and yes your title is "best" travel guitar this will not be the best but it is another option if you not looking top end , and having the usual neck width made it 100% playable despite the short scale......

I can confirm that the Baby Taylor sounds better than the majority of cheap full-sized guitars.

Thanks Keira that is some handy advise, I'll have a ponder. I am looking in the steel string realm. That one for sale looks pretty good.
