I want to get in to my guitaring a lot more. Thing is when I first started playing I went to private lessons for like a year and a half and went on my own from there on. Played in a few bands too, but haven't gigged..yet lol. Anyway, after the last band I was in split, I sort of stopped playing as much as I always used to. So I've been majorly slacking off and it's starting to show by the way I play. I want to get back into it again, but seriously.
Was wondering if any of you guys know anyone who gives advanced guitar lessons in Cape Town? Would love to get back into it, I want to be pushed and get out my best. Any suggestions please?

I know both Rene (Renesongs) and Gareth (Vintage Vibe) teach. They'll probably chip in, or you cam PM them. Maybe you should say what area you are in too...
Bane
If you're in northern suburbs i could help you out too. Gave lessons to young and old a while back to make extra cash, (ever tried teaching a 7 year old...it's HARD, they have the attention span of a cocker-spaniel lol) But yeah let us know what area you're in so we can help a fellow GFSA member out! ?
SimoneMeyer
lol, yeah I can imagine with a 7 year old, damn!
I'm in the Bellville area in Cape Town ?

Hi Simone
I'm in Kenilworth S Suburbs - maybe you want to come 4 a lesson to test the waters ?
Just saw your location - would have 2 make a plan distance wise
We can see where you are and what your goals are, what's needed etc
Give me a buzz ?
Think we should have common ground stylistically !
Bane
Vintage has a point. What style of music you looking at persuing? you said you would like to have more advanced lessons

I'd love to do some classical stuff and I'm really into rock, but I suck at doing lead stuff, so I thought of working on that too.
Renesongs
I believe this guy is excellent but you would need to make a trip to Claremont once a week ?

The curse or the great boerewors curtain divide !
Honestly though, the teachers whos pupils I have seen the most improvement out of are usually those under S Suburbs teachers !
It's a bitch if u don't have a drivers/car yet !
Give it some thought !
Bane
omg you guys are funny!!! this is turning into a battlefield! ? lol be careful simone
@rene: sounds like a but of self-promotion lol
@vintage: i actually agree with you. i had a teacher down there a while ago whom i will never forget (should actually go visit him, feel really guilty) he was alot of help.
all i can say is it seems the southern suburbs are the hub of musos (so wanna move there). actually strayed down there with a friend tonight and man!! everyone there is so enthusiastic about music! met a guy who knows alan (yes you Mr. Ratcliffe ?) and ended up doing some covers on his break. lol his guitar (20 years old) gave me trouble though being used to my fine-tuned axe and my own pedal.it was fun though ? playing there again on tuesday for the heck of it
anyway simone, if you have trouble reaching vintage or rene i'd be more than happy to help you, but if you can organise a lift to either than do that, they seem to be far more experienced than i am. would only do you good ?
AlanRatcliffe
met a guy who knows alan (yes you Mr. Ratcliffe ?)
Yeah, there may be a muso or two around who knows me... ?
Bane
hmm well when i mentioned your name his eyes practically exploded lol. i got the impression he know you well, guy named dave
Renesongs
@rene: sounds like a but of self-promotion lol
Yeah well I cant afford to hire anyone else to promote me.
all i can say is it seems the southern suburbs are the hub of musos (so wanna move there).
Well be prepaired to do a lot of travelling because all the paying gigs are in the northern suburbs behind the sakie-sakie curtain. ?
Bane
haha well said (although the word sakkie-sakkie makes me shiver ?). lol well then i may just stay here. actually i am serious, gona open a topic on gig intensity in general discussion now (Northern vs. Suburbs)

That narrows it down slightly... I only know about a hundred musos called Dave ?
hmm well when i mentioned your name his eyes practically exploded lol.
Dave Ledbetter? He gets bug-eyed frequently ?
arjunmenon
Lol ? How is it that i live in Goodwood and not know of any gigs/ decent musos in this area...
i think i need to get out and do some scouting around...
Cheers,
Arjun
P.S- Bane, i regularly mention Alan's name at Paul Bothner's ? Here come the discounts.. I'm kidding
Bane
Sorry Alan, didnt get his surname. tall skinny guy
@Arjun: ...wicked!! ?
SimoneMeyer
anyway simone, if you have trouble reaching vintage or rene i'd be more than happy to help you
Rad! ? Well what kind of lessons do you do?
Lol, and yes I so agree with you Bane. You guys are funny!
Going to speak to my older brother about the lessons, haven't seen him in a while though. But will try and arrange it and see how it goes. Thanks guys ?
Bane
Well whatever you want really, though it seems you're keen to improve your playing ability so i'd say some basic theory first (especially scales) just to get some foundation going before we go into method, cause you're gonna need to know what's going on. Then we'll focus on method for a while. If you want to go rythm we'll focus on that first or we can jump into some basics of lead or shredding. Totally depends on you. I'd say let's organise a free lesson just to see if i'm the right guy for you and see from there. Sound good?
