Finished this a while ago and left it lying to see if I still like it. The usual speedy melodic shreddy metal deal. This one starts slow, just for a change.

Playing should be tighter in a few places, production can (always) be better, but I realized something important: creation is more fun than perfection. I.e. I just don't feel like fretting about it HAHA.

My first attempt using Peavey Revalver III, the 6505 amp model. Revalver is the most organic sounding amp sim I've heard. Which made it a little harder to sit in the mix, lots of midrange honk and higher range swishh to deal with - nothing good is ever easy!

Reaper; Superior Drummer 2.0 Sneap presets ('cos I don't want to learn that too - thanks Andy!) iZotope oZone 4 on the master track, magical piece of software, makes things sound way better than they should.

Ok so enjoy, or not. Drop me a yay/nay or whatever.

I know what you mean. Sometimes it's nice just to have something you created on disk and just enjoy it rather than fretting about every small imperfection.

Good track. Some sections reminded me a bit of Cynic. Very cool. I still have so much to learn on how to make a recording sound good. My stuff never sounds so full. Maybe I should learn how to mic up my amp properly lol.

Really cool as usual ? This one has more of a doom metal kinda feel to me in the beginning (maybe hints of a Morbid Angel influence?)

I'm usng EZ drummer DFH at the moment, do you reckon its worth the extra money to move to Superior Drummer?

Thanks guys. Cynic, very flattering thanks Lethe. Not sure I hear it myself (hehe) but I'm a huge fan for sure, so it probably comes out "subliminally". (The Exivious side project absolutely rocks, better than Cynic itself, checked it out yet?)

Thanks Doc! Morbid Angel are likewise a huge fave of mine so it probably shines through without trying.

Frankly: no. Don't do it.

Work with what you have and learn to make it sound good - DFH is still pretty damn good. SD2 is expensive and an absolute nightmare to work with IMO, unless you *want* to spend days learning SD2 instead of creating music. Not me. Hence the Sneap presets - solving problems the traditional way by throwing money at them!

Thanks Raith, I'm very happy that my solos don't come across as sloppy then.

I was listening to Christian Muenzner's solos on the new Obscura and by comparison mine are sloppy... but then that dude is beyond skilled and frankly a little too polished sounding.

Solos should be a little wild, I've come full circle lately, thinking King/Hanneman got it right in '86!! When did metal lead playing get so f*kn metronomically anal anyway. Screw that! Hehe.

As for the solo's... kerry wishes he could rip thru arps like that... the slower notes and vibrato pretty much like hanneman there.

That intro... old school man... definitely going grey. Made me think of amorphis and sentenced... the riffing thru the song brought sentenced to mind as well amorphis again.

Anyway, not gonna do comparisons anymore... its a cool track. Could do nicely with a soilwork type vocal on it... but meh, its good as it is.

It's a shocking eye opener how everyone just rails off my influences; Sentenced - another big one. I had my doubts about that fkkng intro, thanks for crystallizing for me what I don't like about it. Gonna have to work much harder to bury any traces of 'old school'!

@Isis - thanks! I've toyed with the thought of internet collaboration, but what I'm really looking for is someone who can do synth sound design & sequencing better than me. I want to make music that achieves the perfect balance between Gwen Stefani and Blotted Science. (And that's not really a joke either) Bubblegum pop prog death metal. It can work I tell ya!
