Ok, the Blacktop discussion going on aside, I just wanted to get some input on general opinions around whole the Tele/Strat thing. I have a Highway One Strat...

well i have a stratocaster with an identity crisis that thinks it's a telecaster ? don;t ask me why but my USA 1983 stratocaster , to me sounds just like a warm tele , i listen almost exclusively at the moment to a tele player jim campilongo who plays tele's but makes em sound warm .he even says he does NOT like that "punnish the audience " sharp tele tone and pays a 59 tele with warm sounding pups...... and i can get a similar but not identical tho tone from my strat and my strat refuses to "quack" like most strats do, i get that tele snap and brightness since my srat has a maple neck but in fact i don't see that as a flaw, as many dire straits and chris rea fans would ☹ but i see that as a bonus cos i really want that warm tele sound....... ........ so anyway the moral of the story is maybe a strat can sound tele ish and vice versa...... now if only my strat looked like a tele ? i'd really be happy cos i do think a tele is the sexiest guitar shape to grace this planet (personal opinion of course)

Haha. I think they're ugly as sin. But like a scarred old dog, they look like they're up for anything, and I love them for that. You could play it, row your canoe with it, get into a brawl with it, hammer in nails with it. Tele's look like they just don't give a sh%$. ?

and your point is????? that exactly why i like em...even on the fender website they call it the most basic deisgn, just a slab of wood with pickups stuck to it and a neck and after all this time still stands the test of time.......... and then in the same video on the history of the telcaster (made by fender ) someone ( a star who uses tele's says , a tele is a guitar you can't hide behind , ) but really singe all the reasons you state

is exactly why they so damn sexy ? but ( let me add to avoid the blood feud that could follow ....... in my humble opinion )

Just a superstrat and a notion that it can do both kinds of music (hard rock and metal).

I've seen them from time to time. IIRC it was relatively easy to fit a tele neck to a strat, but less easy to do the reverse.

Sonically I don't think it's make much difference from a maple strat neck. It's the bridge and the pickups that make a tele sound like a tele.

I'm totally in agreement with you ! I've got an upgraded squier tele (affinity, vintage white, maple) and a champion 600 (matta) amp and it is THE sound for me. I love the simple, humble tele - some of us reckon that Leo and Co. got it right the first time!

I've had many electric guitars both solid and hollow, single coil and humbucker and I always come back to my tele... That said, I agree with those who rightly point out that it depends entirely on your taste in sound and music anyway..

Isn't the problem that you can't have both quack tones in 2 and 4 and tele tones in position 3, due to the phasing of the pickups?

Not really. Many old guits weren't rwrp. They're all in phase with each other technically.

Nope - does it rather well if you make sure the pickups are a similar impedance. Go too hot for any of them and you lose the 'tweens.
