So this band always gets compared to other bands that I like, and I think I should give them a try... album/song recommendations anybody?
Wolfmother...
First time I see/hear the name.
The First Album is good stuff some real retro riffs and Creativity, almost Black Sabbath on some songs.
I have Cosmic Egg but have yet to listen (So much Music, so little time), but the first one is good stuff
quite easy they only have two albums out
Wolfmother
Cosmic Egg
song - The Joker and The Thief from the first album, very retro riffing, sounds like the late 60's or early 70's

Dig this band. People always say they're the Sabbath of the Millennium, which in itself presents a preconception, but I don't think so. I'm not really much of a Sabbath fan, but I love these guys. Their lyrical themes are quite different. The musicality is quite similar, but a little bit lighter than BS. I'd say listen to their self-titled first, Cosmic Egg might put you off. Fav tracks are White Unicorn, Dimension, Colossal, Woman, Apple Tree.. Its classic psych rock of a pretty high standard imo.
Fantastic stuff, either album will do (I prefer Cosmic Egg myself)... they are "modeled" on a certain style of 70s heavy rock but the song writing, riffs, vox, drumming, bass and production are stellar.
I heard them for the first time having never heard of them or having any idea what to expect. After a minute I was like, "Whoa. These guys sound exactly like Black Sabbath."
It's not all bad though. Even Black Sabbath don't sound like Black Sabbath any more. It's nice that a band took all the win out of what they did and served it back up in fresh songs. Even the lyrics are almost Sabbath-like. But just a little shy of the Spinal Tap idiocy that Ozzy so endearingly cooked up.

My 5c-If you mix Black Sabbath and The Who,end result would be Wolfmother, the song White unicorn in particular reminds me a lot of The Who(think perhaps Babe'o'reilly)
been listening to the self-titled...
I think they're quite good. Good mix of stoner/classic rock, and I like both genres, so the music is right up my alley. I agree with some criticism I've heard of them, that say they aren't very unique/original... but that's nearly impossible for the genre they play... and I don't think there's anything wrong with just putting out some kickass music, if that's what you wanna do...

I dislike them alot...... To me they are a band who are just trying to be 70's rock..... so they are to much Sabbath for me to like them.
I think for stoner rock there are better bands, I think for rock there are better bands, and I think for 70's old school rock there are far better actual 70's rocl bands.
Wolfmother actuallu by the way brole up after there first album...... BUT then the singer went and just formed a new band under the same name....
Here is a musician I do love giving his opinion of old Wolfmother ?

They remind me of Led Zepellin, only more rocky less bluesy, go figure...
Old Mikey. I saw/heard him chew out a member of the audience at a Tomahawk gig in NY for *gasp* daring express amazement at the song they just finished playing. He's probably my favourite singer of all time but I take his utterances with a pinch of salt.MIKA the better one wrote: I dislike them alot...... I don't think Wolfmother are "trying to be 70's rock", that's like saying BJM are trying to be sixties rock... it's a genre that they play in and imho are very entertaining but they are balanced on the edge of pastiche for sure. But when the mood is right they're perfect.
