I have actually been thinking about this on and off recently, although I was thinking guitar weekends here in Napier - clinics and workshops on playing, using equipment, guitar setups, etc. Possibly even get one or two demo of new equipment from a wholesaler where we can all try out the latest and greatest in a specific brand guitar/amp/FX, etc. I've got as far as venues, accommodation and food and have even spoken to a supplier or two, but have yet to start looking at clinicians. ?
As I said I was thinking weekends with the option to grow if they prove successful (and in my fantasies it grows to end up as a once-a-year, massive Frankfurt/NAMM trade fair type affair), but if there is enough demand we could stretch it out for a week-long "festival" with jam sessions each night. Gear discussions and trading riffs sessions, etc.. However, while a longer festival type event makes it more do-able for those travelling a long distance, it also pushes the price up and means less people that can break away to do it.
Interested? Thoughts?
Definitely interested. Over a weekend would be ideal as the missus would love to visit as well.
As for clinicians, i think the CPT guys who play in bands can give us more info on band dynamics etc.
I personally would love some insight on ordering effects, gainstaging, the best way to use a valve amp, home recording...the list is endless. I'd also love to see a shootout of various OD/Dist pedals, delay pedals etc.
If there are any takers, i'd love to do a little something about using a vibrato unit/arm and possibly tag-team with another rock fusion head to present some outside-the-box soloing concepts.
