Hi VV,
It's definitely going to be cool!
Right:
The audition list will spit out 14 or so random songs from a list we prepared. They might be the same for some, but contain one or two news ones for other. So it's in essence the same list, just with different combinations. You only have to pick one song.
Although we present you with 14 songs, you only need to learn and audition the one you select. We suggest being able to perform it as it currently is, and perhaps another style, tempo or even arrangement. This is not a must, merely a "under the table" tip from my side.
As for the audition dates, they are:
30/31 October 2008: Stellenbosch
3/4 November 2008: Durban
6/7 November 2008: Bloemfontein
10/11 November 2008: Johannesburg
13/14 November 2008: Pretoria
So the time scale is completely up to you.
As for the website: I've sent some more info through to the folks at Telkom to update the web with, so all the info should be there shortly.

Hi David
Thanks 4 response again !
PS - for 1st auditions, do you audition with a backing track minus your instrument, or just get grouped together with other instrument players to make a temporary band setup 4 the auditions ?
Sorry 4 all questions finally auditioned today - I'll try anything once !
Regards
Gareth

Hey VV
Have you already auditioned or just registered for the audition.
I just registered for the jhb audition.
Dave. Do we have to learn both parts of the guitar(lead and rhythm) or what we prefer?
Vintage-Vibe
Hi Gerald
Registered 4 audition - they're only at end of month ?
As to your other point hence my technical questions -
Will there be a "backline" band, backing tracks, CD etc ?
DoBandUp
Brilliant! Can't wait to meet you guys at the auditions!
At the auditions you will be completely on your own. No backing tracks, no session muso's or other competitors. Just you and the song you selected.
Without giving too much away, you need to rock up and jam the song in such a way - alone - to still rock the judges. So if you want to learn only the lead bit, your call. I prefer you learn the song and are able to perform it in such a way that you get the best of both worlds.
I'm in Cape Town this Friday at the Durbanville Kunskafee - drop in if you'd like to chat or have more questions!

Sounds like a good idea, the whole competition that is... not me entering ?.
Anyway, I thought it would be nice to try, but I am in a band that satisfies all my needs, so no need for me to be followed around by cameras. I see you are at Kunskafee this weekend. My band played there last weekend. What exactly is your job in the music industry, because I see some of my friends are playing this Friday at Kunskafee. Dit you get a tip-off to check them out maybe... ? or do you just follow those bands?
And another thing, when does this show air?
CornFlakes
Awesome I’ve just registered..
Sounds like great fun!

Hmmm, pity I hate Telkom so much.
But whateva...hope it does well ?
DoBandUp
@Niel, awesome man!! It's seldom that you find a satisfied guitarist! ?
This show is exactly for those folks who needs a stable band to enhance and further their careers. But should you change you mind, you know where to find us! Yes, I do follow these bands as best I can, but we're also working closely with DPK on the Stellies auditions, and therefore thought it'll be a great oppertunity to lay some fears to rest. Come make a turn!
@JTS
Dude, see it as a glorious opportunity to get something back from them. We're talking management deals, international tours, equipment, colabs with famous muso's...the list carries on. It's driven by us, managed by us, and more importantly, controlled by us. You have nothing to lose.
Rock on!
Dave

Thanks Dave - don't know if I can make it that end this w'end.
SO - if it's u, the guitarist "a capella" so to speak, are you required to sing ?
I just think it would sound a bit dull with no rhythm section or vocal melody - hence do BAND up ? ?
Just a thought - a lot of the songs on that list have long parts where the guitar is a tertiary texture and drum & bass & vox are dominant - eg "Wish You Were Here"'s verses, RHCP "All Around The World" 's verses
IE: are you expecting a performing guitar star or a guitarist that plays & sings ?
Just seems a bit odd is all
Thanks again

Awesome Dave! I stay in Stellenbosch, I know some of the guys from DPK pretty well. I've also helped with a few shows with big bands like aKing and Fokof... etc. Ironically enough, those bands aren't my sound of choice and I know I would never fit in an easy-listening rock/commercial sounding band. Though I have a subjective ear for good music, and have a liking for any genre. I don't like playing just any genre though... Okay I am beating around the bush now.
So you want to get these DPK bands to help with the shows, maybe give some band therapy for the upcoming hopefuls? Nothing better than getting it straight from the horses mouth ?. I would like to check out the Stellenbosch auditions. I know of a few guys in my neighborhood that would love to take advantage of such an opportunity. For some reason, I just don't like the idea of everything falling into your plate all at once. (even though I know the competition will be stiff) Manson said: "When all of your wishes are granted, many of your dreams will be destroyed.”
I feel the struggle of just making rent and crashing in tents at overcrowded "platteland" festivals are what it is all about at. Will these guys ever experience this? PHEW, I seem to putting the bandwagon (excuse pun) way in front of the horse at the moment and well... it's just my opinion. People are in it for the fame, some are not. Some want the full experience, some want early recognition in massive proportions. You should always be sure which side of the table you're sitting on, before entering a show like this.
Anyway, I would really like to help with something like this, in some way, even it is just to get to know few people. It could be something small.
Thanks
