The NS-2 is a noise gate rather than a supressor, and it works OK if you know how to set it.
@Hammeron - noise gates are more problem solvers than effects, made to get rid of noise (hiss, hum, pickup squeal) when you are not playing. They can be (and sometimes are) set more aggressively so they chop off the end of notes, but that's not their main function.

The NS-2 has the same buffers that all the Boss pedals use, so most people don't mind the tone difference any more than they do with other Boss pedals.
many guitar players use it to get noise out of their setup, where they could just shiel the guitar and get decent cables and make shure the amp is in perfect condition
Unfortunately some use so much gain that even with humbuckers a noise gate becomes essential.
