Once again: Fenders. Their all-tube vintage stuff really cook. Í've tried a lot, but the Fenders work best with their namesake guitars. It's like love and marriage, horse and carriage ... well, you know what I mean!

I use a very neutral amp and Guitar Rig's Vox sim is definitely my favourite.

After much research, I imported a Randall RM100 head. This thing is awesome. It allows you three preamp module slots (all Valve) and you can select which module you want to use. There are about 20 available for purchase. these are all modelled after the big names so it's really getting the best of everything right there. Not to mention that it has MIDI capabilities as well as allows you to store your stomp pedals to a specific channel so that every time you go to that channel you stomp pedals will activate as well. Quite revolutionary I think. If I'm not mistaken it one the Innovations award for 2007.
I imported it directly from the US and comes standard with voltage selection. If I were to crit it I would the build construction is maybe not as solid as a Marshalls and I think in terms of touring that could be a key factor 200 dates later.
For Studio I use a couple of things but the best thing I have found for Balls to the Wall tone is the new Revalver plug-in by Peavey. you will not be sorry. I think thPeavey have opened the door o some really new and exiting ways of modelling guitar as this thing is so close to the real thing. trust me, I have Line 6, Amplitube and even Waves GTR3. All very good but I think Peavey takes it in terms of modelling their amps. the way you can tweak things is also outstanding.
I would however caution, and this is not to knock any shop or importer of the Revalver plugin, I would rather get it online than buy it in the store, which I did, as the price is quite a bit more instore. the last time I checked in any case.

Marshall vintage for me.....old 1959 plexi super lead 100w does the tick for me... and yes I have actually played quite a few shows on it... but ist not mine... sad really sad

I've only had a Crate and now a Marshall and of the two I'd have to choose Marshall.

lol. From what I've heard, you can't even get the Carvin Legacy in SA. Perhaps I heard wrong? Anybody ever played on one?
Martyr
to be honest i've never heard of 'em before :-[

I played on them once at one crack heads house who's a Steve Vai nut.
To be honest it didn't sound like much but I also didn't really get a chance to mess with it like I wanted. But on the Steve Vai live at the Astoria DVD he has some nice chunky Rhythms and clear leads ?

Vox then fender... but marshall overdrive is good you can't
deny that.
