He didn't die before he got old

Happy birthday Pete Townshend - 66 today.

(now playing: "Warm Heart Pastry" by Mike Heron - Pete Townshend on guitar, Keith Moon on drums and it's totally rockadelic).

Well I hope he has a smashing birthday.... ?

Maybe it was Keith they were talking about.

Happy Birthday Dude

The Who were the first band I became a huge fan of, The next door Neighbour gave me "Live at Leeds" and I was hooked.
I still think he was a decent Acoustic Guitarist, have a listen to Tommy...

Pete... child porn much? Yes I read his reasons and subsequent essay against cp but can't quite get rid of the bad vibe (to be fair I've always been turned off by him and this just seemed to confirm it)...

And the old Magic Bus, the Live at Leeds is great but I like the older one. Ya Tommy is also great but I just felt that Quadrophenia was just so full of emotion and guts.

I'm not a great Who fan, and I don't "get" Tommy and even less Quadrophenia as concepts, but there's no doubt that Townshend wrote some great songs. Especially early on with numbers like My Generation, Legal Matter, Can't Explain and the utterly fab Substitute. I was in the army with a guy who was a big Who fan and he used to entertain us with large chunks of Quadrophenia and there were some great songs in there.

I thought that Pete in particular got a bit pretentious in the late 70s and disappeared up his own rear end for a while, but then there was a lot of that going on round about that time.
