My apologies for posting in the wrong section, I looked for the introductions but I was obviously a moron. ?

And Wizard, it's funny because I've mainly spent time on Sevenstring.org, and there everyone thinks 6 is too few strings! ?
Nice to have a change of scenery though, and really glad to be here.

I'm also quite a frequenter to ss.org and I agree with their consensus regarding appropriate number of strings. As you may have guessed prior I'm one of the 8 string players on here ?

Welcome to the local forum man, hopefully we can have many amusing conversations about djent and ERGs in future. I look forward to it, as it's always nice to see another ERG player join up ?

Yay for ERG! My name is Byron, thank once again for the nice words. ?

I took to the fan like a duck to water, its really comfortable and just makes sense, its a 25,5 to 27 fan so its not too extreme.
I would've liked a 28.625 to 25.5, but I'm really enjoying it. I noticed your other thread about all them string and posted there too. ?

If you're looking to get into the multi scales I'd definitely suggest checking out rondomusic, great gear and a great price.
Obviously the shipping adds a bit but really good guitars. If you're ever in JHB give me a shout, I'd be happy to have a jam, and you can try the fanned frets. ?

My goodness thats one wicked guitar! It is even possible to play where the frets start to angle? It looks way too small for a mere finger!

It's actually the most comfortable guitar I own! If you slide your hand lightly from the nut to your highest fret, you'll notice the natural angle of your wrist.
It seems to me that this natural angling follows the fanned frets perfectly. ? I guarantee that if you picked this up, you'd have little to no trouble playing it.
I occasionally have some issues at the higher frets, where the fan gets a bit more extreme, since up there the dots on the neck don't line up with the higher
strings. ? So I need to keep my wits about me. ?

I'll be posting all my gear up in the gear section this week when I have some time. ? Probably Wednesday after voting! ?

The treble side is 25,5" which means the fret spacing of the high strings is the same as say a 24 fret Ibanez RG. It may appear vissually small but it's most likely more or less the same size as your guitars frets ? Now the lower side is a whole different story ?

I actually convinced my neighbour to buy an Agile Intrepid 727 off of Rondo Music, I'm very familiar with the brand and honestly I think it's some of the most insane value for money you can get these days ? If I'm ever in JHB again I'll definitly hit you up man, we'll do some djent djam vibes ?

Ok thurs i'm just there for the day.. maybe another time ?

I have similar guitars to you funnily - an 8 string Ibanez RGA8, LTD Viper (its a 6 but i'd get the 7 if it sounds as good as mine ?), an Epi Les Paul Gold Top and a few more. Also might get that one Cort EVL 7 string. I play my 8 the mostly but sometimes its nice to be able to just hit that 7th string freely for certain riffs.

Hi and welcome. I'm new here too, and really feel out of my depth considering guitar is only my third instrument and there are some really knowledgeable people around here.

Something sprang to mind when I read your post concerning an observation my piano lecturer once made...;

The human body is designed to only excecute movements in semi-circles and as such the piano would have been most ergonomical in design if the keyboard formed an arch with the player seated at the center. I believe there has been some church organs built in such a fashion since (because of the many manuals) it is even harder to reach all the notes than on a piano.
This nescessatates some upperbody gymnastics in some piano music which requires rapid and extreme jumps between lower and higher registers on the keaboard.

This makes for an interesting study in the developement of instruments and begs the question: since when have we arrived? And what improvements can still be made?

There sure are no shortage of innovative people out there by the look of that guitar!

My feelings exactly!

There are a lot of people who are opposed to the idea of the guitar evolving, for instance the "luddites" as Gibson calls them. I can't understand why it is that so many people assume what we have is the best possible design. Another similarity I'd like to draw between fanned frets and piano is that in order to achieve a perfectly in tune sound each string of the piano is a different length, so essentially each string has it's own individual scale length for intonation purposes. Guitar strings regardless of pitch or gauge have a single scale length, Fanned frets or multi-scales essentially set out to remedy that issue by giving each string a progressively smaller (or bigger depending on how you wanna look at it) scale length. I have a 27" scale guitar which is an 8 string and a 25,5" which is a 7, I prefer the tone and attack I get on the low strings of my 8 but find the sweeter high end of the 7 string better so to me I have decided that fanned frets just may be something I'd like to seriously consider.

Now speaking of innovative guitars, check out Ola Strandberg. The guy makes ergonomic fanned fret headless guitars with trapezoidal necks, apparently they are the most horrendously comfortable guitars on earth. I personally have no opinion of them from a playing perspective, but theoretically they look amazing ? Another thing he's managed to do is get a twist in the neck so the strings sit on a slight off axis, how he gets this right without buzz is a complete mind-f*** to me ???
