Doesn't what Alan?.... ?
Whoops! :-[ ...doesn't seem to like piezos as much as it does the GK-3 (it has settings for GT, RMC and Fishman piezos). I must still spend some time tweaking though, so it's early days. Better onboard sounds than the Axon and better tracking than my GI-20. Solid too. Modelled guitar sounds are a little "Meh!", but some interesting synth stuff and a ton of sounds. I still prefer using my Native Instruments softsynths, but don't want to gig with a laptop.
You know I also have a Yamaha G-50 with the G-1D pickup, it was my first serious MIDI guitar setup. I never could get that to track as well as I would have liked. Close but no cigar.
That was basically an early Axon - the inventor, Andras Szaly licensed it to Yamaha, then Axon, then Bluechip and finally Terratec bought the rights just before the US economy went bang. A good convertor, just the lack of support for piezos - just as Godin and Brian Moore were getting into 13-pin in a big way - hampered sales.
Then a few years ago, I finally pulled the trigger on the Axon AX100MkII and a Godin Freeway SA with the Ghost Modular system.
Nice. That's basically still state of the art. Your Godin has the Ghost system, not the RMC?
The big problem though is that Terratec that makes Axon has gone and quit makin' 'em. Finally a guitar-to-MIDI converter that really cooks and they stop developing and making them.
I'm also hoping Roland will buy them out... They are the only ones who could do the tech justice. The transient detection has an application for pitch shifters and harmonizers too - so they could also clean up on that front if they buy the tech.
I gotta tell you Alan.....this little YRG is pretty amazing. I wish you could check one out.
Nah - I looked into the Ztars a few years ago, but I likes me strings. I always mix guitar sounds in at the same time - the one sure-fire way of getting around the pitch recognition delay is to use the guitar sound for attack.
