Hey Bob
Your comprehension and style of writing is pretty good. You almost read like a Journalist.
John Martyn was like a spiritual experience, he was pushed in on a wheelchair. A very young backing band, but the crowd were brilliant, I dont know if this is an English thing. They clapped for every solo, laughed between the songs and seemed to know all the words.
He was doing the album "Solid Air", every single song. He almost uses his voice as an extra instrument.
It was tad more jazz than folk.

For me, I prefer going out and watching a band live rather than going to a club or even just drinking with friends. Gigs are a firm favourite pastime.
I was at the Underoath gig on Saturday and they we're preceded by a number of local hardcore bands. The majority of them were off with their sound. whether it was the levels or just the tone, they were off in one way or another.
Bands that missed it:
New Altum
He*Sha*Burn
We shall embrace
Hikatori
Straatligkinders
Bands that nailed it:
Unlisted
Underoath
Band that really nailed it:
The Narrow
and that was surprising! Our local boys sounded great and was actually very close to CD reproduction in an open air theatre - how, i have no idea. They made more of a mark than Underoath. They managed to capture the sound and add a stage presence that was second to none.
On international bands:
Counting Crows is the first one that springs to mind, not because of the awesomeness, but rather because of the sheer and utter amateurish way they carry themselves - total disrespect and disregard for paying customers (thank goodness I wasn't a huge fan - i would have killed myself). Adam was so wasted that he almost fell off stage, twice. He made a total hash of each and every song - first round Idols auditions do them better.
The Offspring was excellent. Great sound reproduction and good energy on stage. I'd pay three times as much and wait twice as long to see them again.
Was hoping for a little more energy, being punk and all - but the guys are pushing 40...
The Cranberries were not bad. The sound was a little off and Delores' singing could have been cleaner. Not much of a stage presence.
James was very good, great levels and clean sounds. Wasn't much of a fan so i didn't know what to expect or listen for.
Smashing Pumpkins (old) were really off. Their sound was clean enough but each and every song was almost an entire remake of the original. Bullet With Butterfly Wings was played at some ridiculous tempo - 940 or something...
when i think of more i'll share.
