Instrument vs Furniture Grade wood?

Just a hypothetical question here, if I were to build a guitar with wood from a more 'normal' wood supplier like Country Woods or what have you as opposed to wood from somewhere like Pro Sono, what sort of a difference would it make, especially with regards to tone?

check out rare woods as well.

its depends what you are building, asuming that you looked at pro sono, your probably doing an acoustic guitar.

rare wood sell pre cut sizes for acoustic guitar backs,fronts and sides.

its more important how you build that will really make difference to the quality.
and also knowing how to choose the perfect piece of wood.

coutry woods and rarewoods might be a cheaper option, but that doesn't mean the wood quality is bad.
plus you can select the wood yourself.

Excellent! Although I'm actually thinking more of trying out building a solid body electric in the future, knowing that I could use wood from Country/Rare woods in an acoustic certainly gives me piece of mind.

have a look at this thread, its my first guitar i am building, bought most of the wood in the OFFCUT section at rarewoods, and the wood didn't cost me much, i just had to spend some serious time to look for the perfect pieces i needed, aldough i didn't buy the mahogany new from the warehouse, had to buy a 2m lenght, as it was the shortest one they had in stock, but you'll be able to find something in the offcut section for next to nothing. because its your first build i would not recommend spending to much money, get something basic, even glue 2 pieces together for a body, use it as a learning curve.

the price for my wood was:
Mahogany 2meters = +-R800

maple top = R120
(it was a rare goog looking piece i found to make the booked top)

Fretboard, rosewood = R50
(they sell pre cut fretboards for guitar)

Neck wood, 5 piece sapele and maple = about R150
(i bought long strips and glued them together in 5 pieces)

Glueing two pieces together to make a body is a well respected way of building and imho not a beginners' thing.

You just have to know what to look for.

A friend of mine built the most amazing djembe from a milkwood stump that remained in the ashes from a restaurant fire in Noordhoek many years ago.

I've bought plenty from Country Woods.
