Acoustic Fingerstyle Guitar

Hi All
I recently purchased two of Mark Hanson's books, they are Beyond Basics: Fingerstyle Guitar and The Contemporary Art of Travis Picking. Both books are brilliant for beginning fingerstyle. Although I'm not much into county and folk music, the books really help develop a better technique and shows you many different patterns and picking variations.

A must have for any fingerstyle guitarist.

Another to add to this list is Pete Hutlinger's "Essential Exercises For Fingerstyle Guitar". I got it this last week, REALLY good stuff. Nothing mind blowing, but the exercises he gives are simple, yet challenging and there are some good practice tools on there.

Yes, I am also a fan of Pete Hutlingers Lessons.
I also have his DVD on Jim Croce.

Is it? Does he just teach some of Jim's songs? I've never heard of Jim Croce :-\

Yes he just teaches songs from Jim Croce on this particular DVD. Jim Croce was a great fingerstyle guitarist.

I think it was Maury Muehleisen who played the really good acoustic guitar on Croce's records. Croce wrote the songs and had his name on the records, but Muehleisen came up with those great parts.

Maury was a fantastic guitar player, but Jim was now slouch either! The Jim Croce DVD teaches you Jim's part mostly, expect for Time in a Bottle, where he teaches both.

When you are finished with those 2 Mark Hanson books, try his other one - The Art of Solo Fingerpicking, which I believe is a follow up to the Travis Picking book you got.

I've been interested in the 2 you bought as they are probably more my level. The Art of Solo fingerpicking has some pieces I'm simply not yet ready for. The pieces sound great but are pretty technical and more than just a bit beyond my current fingerpicking abilities. I have almost nailed one down but need to practice it a lot more - its called Flier, and is really fun to play.

I have ordered and received Mark Hanson's "The art of Solo Fingerpicking". Now to go through it ?
