That paint looks pretty thick, and if there's one thing that I actually do know about is sanding, and it looks like that paint job's gonna have to be sanded down and reapplied, but best send it in I reckon. I sanded down my bass, I used an electric sander and too much enthusiasm, and managed to sand through the top veneer (ya I didn't know it was a sandwich body at the time), but it's an old beater anyway so I don't mind that it looks deformed.
