I bought a banjo!
I dont have pic of it yet. But I just love the uniek sound it makes. Me and my friend play Dueling banjo together. lol
AlanRatcliffe
LOL! I used to fiddle with them when I worked in music stores. Dueling Banjos is about the only thing I can play. Oh, yeah - Zep's Gallows Pole too. The clawhammer style comes pretty easy to a fingerpicker like myself. Hmm, must get one sometime to have around...

Awesome !!! I really want to play banjo someday. Is a banjo more difficult to play than guitar?
Renesongs
Don't know - you'll have to ask my brother Darryl, at least I think his my brother, could be my uncle though ?

@ Rene
Hahaha I reckon you think people that plays Banjo uses a shotgun as metronome and most of them live on or near a swamp... ?
AlanRatcliffe
No, not really. There's a bit of adjustment to the different tuning, but if you can fingerpick, adjusting to banjo is easy. In fact Mark Knopfler's thumb and two finger fingerpicking style is very similar to how a banjo player plays. Consider that the first time Jimmy page ever played a banjo was for the recording of Gallows Pole and you will get some idea of how easy it is to adjust.
@ Rene, could be both. Could also be your other brother Darryl.

I shared a semi in Observatory with a guy that was learning banjo, (used to drive me crazy) - I picked it up one day and started noodling around, the guy's jaw just dropped, he asked me where I had learned to play banjo. I'd been playing classical guitar for quite a few years, (thumb and fingers) so it was quite easy - too few strings and funny tuning though.
Bela Fleck IMO plays a mighty fine banjo - Jazz Fusion no less ?

Finally....I thought I was the only one

lol! personally I would say its a bit harder because most of the songs require your fingers to move pretty fast and it takes time to adjust to the high G string (lol! sounds so kinky!) that starts at the 5th fret. and when you play the 4th string you dont see the 5th string too easily in the begining and play the 5th string instead of the 4th string
Explorerlover
That 5th string does get in the way...I've started by just learning the chord fingerings and where everything sits on the neck [ mine being tuned in G ]. Some tabs to browse for your leisure

a lot of the songs are open G tunning. My high G string(seeing that theres 2 I'm talking about the 5th string) is out of tunning and the tunner is in my Ford. But I keep forgeting it there. lol
A great song to play is cripple creek!
Explorerlover
That string [on mine] seems to tune very quickly...as in a little adjustment goes a looong way and it always seems outta tune aswell?....And then my Dutchman family all point and laugh because it doesn't sound like the guy in the Marius Louw boere-orkes... >☹
AlanRatcliffe
Yeah, it's a tuning peg, not a tuning machine - it's not geared so has a 1:1 ratio, you're used to the +/- 14:1 ratio of guitar machines. The Schaller replacement tuners have a geared 5th, but are expensive.

Couldn't resist! ?

Haha i want a bazuuki!!! (no probably wrong spelling) but most of all i want a didjeridoo (no probably wrong spelling too).
Unfortunatley i smoke so i may have to settle for a bazuuki or banjo aswell ?
