Demon-Dave Okay, we’ve all been there, done that, but how many times have you walked into that pub/club/venue to hear someone murdering a song that you once loved but now cant stand the sound of it, simply because you’ve heard people murder it a thousand times before? Face it, these songs will never be as good as the original, no matter how hard you try! List the most overdone, overused and killed covers that you can’t stand: Extreme – More than Words The Eagles – Hotel California Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Pink Floyd – Another Brick in the Wall ZZ Top – Le Grange To name but a few!
Squonk At TJ's Open Mic , it's Leonard Cohens Hallelujah, if I hear it again, I will start using a Red Sharkfin ?

Svengali Worst is, some Afrikaans group ROMANZ did it wih Kurt Darren as a Gospel song, which it is definately NOT! How do I know this? (Don't ask!)

flatfourfan I dunno........I've heard a lot of covers and many of them may be their own take, but are pretty good in their own right. Try to do something too much like the original and you end up with steve hoffmeyer doing neal diamond or Just Ginger doing Sugarman. Awakening - Sounds of Silence Trivium - Master of Puppets, (this is on par with what Metallica used to sound like and even better than they play it now). I heard a one man guy (the bluesman I think his name was) in a pub in pretoria a few years back doing Simon & Garfunkel stuff...........man that sounded good. Not all covers are created crap..........

Squonk Alright - see if you can top this! I was camping at Hartbeespoort Oord on the Easter Weekend and after huge advertising about a "Disco" on the Saturday night, and nagging from my kids to let them go, I relented and seeing that they are 9 and 13, It was best that I went with them. There was this Wally, who obviously thought he was Steve Hofmeyer (and not a good one at that) run through the Hofmeyer Catalog including painful versions of a whole bunch of Neil Diamond songs, not only flat but pronounciation wise eg. Sorng, Sungh, bloo, I em I said etc.
