Anyone familiar with the Schecter C-1 EX Baritone

Our other axeman is a south paw. Hard to find decent guitars for them sinister lefties. Would anyone know what these are like. They have a great user review on harmony central.

He's got an Epiphone les paul, Just put new Duncan's and machine heads on it out of frustration. We're going for a heavy rock/metal sound.

Best store for lefties is Music connection (in my experience).

I also had a flying V guitar made by Gaskell Guitars in Australia who specialise in lefty guitars, welcome to try it. I dotn play it much was thinking of selling it at one stage.

unfortunately us lefties suffer when it comes to choice ,one of those things.

Which epi les paul is it ? heavy rock should be no problem with upgrades mentioned but thrash metal mebbe a problem.

Don't know why an Epi with good pickups couldn't do thrash or any other style. If you're downtuning I guess the baritone would be better for string tension.

Schecters are fine, I have the Loomis signature which is derived from the Hellraiser, not sure what the difference is between that and the Blackjack. But mine is made in Indonesia and quality is fine. Sounds good. I have super low action on it with no problems. That's all I can say firsthand.

Honestly I don' t know why people worry about "can it do metal/thrash/etc". Jeez just PLAY the thing. I do a fair bit of metal and I don't see the problem with an Epi + Duncans. (OK, I *only* do metal, check my sig links if you don't believe me.)

Right now if you gave me an Epi Les Paul stock, I bet it could do any metal in the world, in the right hands and given some days to familiarize with the guitar.

Ok, final thought: it's your practice schedule that makes the metal, not your guitar. ?

I'm with BMU here, it's more the player than the guitar. The modern Epi Standard is quite a good guitar - I was recently impressed by the tone someone was getting out of a stock one plugged into my Twin. No, not a metal tone, but into a Mesa or other high gain amp it could have been.

I could race the Dakar with my Tenere660 ..... it would do it ....it would however not be the perfect tool for the job at hand.

Agree with the sentiment about just playing the thing though....

Respectfully disagree. Example: one of the Cannibal Corpse guys play Les Pauls. I think with stock pickups. My fave guitar is mahogany with maple cap with PAFs - almost a les paul except for the pointy headstock and jumbo frets haha.

It's categorically wrong to think there's 'a metal guitar' imo. The only thing 'metal' about metal guitars are their looks. It's your *amp* that produces the metal sound.

I don't mean to labour the point, but it's my pet mission to help younger guys understand you don't need to always buy something new, you can very often just work with what you have.

That said, Schecters are cool. No problem with that!

Lets back track. Mostly concerned with the quality of a guitar. I'm a LP style fan myself, I play a Hamer Slamer standard from the 90's, love that guitar. Having a unique tone is an advantage, and obviously aesthetics play a roll. The sound we're getting with the combination of the Hammer and the Epi is really phenomenal, especially since the new pickups.
Yes, the offending lefty joined the forum and the discussion, but he's a bit shy.

Rob Barrett (if thats who you are referring to) uses a Dean mainly but does have a custom gibson les paul in his arsenal although i aint seen it used much in videos but does get used. A custom gibson les paul is probably a far cry from a std epi les paul ....

Would you say Rob is in the minoriity in the genre and if so why do you think that is? Asethtics only?

Cool. As to whether the Schecter would be a significant upgrade to the Epi - sorry can't really help you there.
