interesting i must look for some sound clips...... but i must also say i love that clean fender tone ....... so i prob will stick to that design but as you know i'm a gear fanatic that will look into this too........ thanks for the point ...aja

I think there are mountains of amps that could be chosen, and yes all that little bit different. But really in the end anyone of them will work..

I find myself looking at loads of EL84 based amps at the moment, trying to decide which would be the best, really though in the end whatever I get even if it is not the best I will somehow justify.

I think just get a Fender Blues junior.... and be done
OR a Bugera V55 cheaper and very fender ish.

Hi Keira

Not to throw a spanner in the worx, but I would stay away from EL84 for clean playing. The low voltages EL84's need, does not give the headroom clean sound demands. My experience has taught me that an EL84 amp without a choke is not going to be clean. Most of those amps on offer do not have a choke in the power supply. (It can be fitted as a mod though). So try before you buy.

I would rather go for the 6V6GT/6L6 lot for mega options. Some of the killer NOS tubes only like 360V on the plate (I am talking of the metal 6V6 and 6L6), so that limits you to 15 watts with a 8Kohm output transformer. But that should be enough for your needs. I think the Lindsay Fralin is spot on (if you need the reverb). How much does it cost?

The Bugere V55 looks like a beast! That should keep you happy for a long time 8)

i read the specs and did the reading yesterday afternoon....... the internet has very mixed responces , tho in the states people are buying em on special for $250 ........and at that price they seeing em as disposable amps.......... that V22 if it had other tubes looks right for me........ but it has digital reverb ...... i love spring reverb ....... and i have read on many forums they sound great but are unreliable.........and many guys have the reverb dying on them within a month ........so yes a cheap and initially a great sounding amp, i know mika who is quite particular about his amps couldnt stop raving about the one he demoed .........

so yes the industry is moving in the right way that one can get tube amps at NON boutique prices but i guess they need some time to get the reliability right then it's well worth it ..cos at $250 for 22W 2channel amp that rivals a ac15 (see you tube vids) is awesome ...... and affordable for the local muso wanting tube tones but playing small gigs without a huge budget ...................now if they were just reliable ........

Yikes... even at R10 to the $ that comes to R2500 ZAR!

Reverb is killer for a custom build. A lot of extra work for a single effect :'(

yes Karel but you know as well as i do a good (let me say good) spring reverb is not recreated in any pedal or digital form.... i been reading up tons on spring reverb pedals ec ect and unless one gets a stand alone reverb tank there is no one building a pedal that is as lush as a good spring reverb....... so i guess in a custom build it's worth extra money to have it included......

but yes not sure how much the bugera's are selling for here but they dirt cheap elsewhere in the world..... anyway the endless posts online re their unreliability is scary so i would possible steer clear of them however tempting the low price is..........
