Costa's and Dingwall's entries are superb, good stuff!
Costa, you make that Martin sound incredible, and it's very sad ?

X-Rated Bob - early misty evening in some loch in Scotland (or Emmerentia .. ?),,,, a logfire and a glass of whiskey, the vibrato effect compliments this tune greatly.
Kilbrannan Sound is a body of water that separates the island of Arran from (wait for it) the Mull of Kintyre.

Bob - Good Stuff, Love the drone of the bass notes. using tremelo? The interplay bewtween the bass and the melody is brilliant, It makes me feel good(I dont know if it's the emotion you intended, but it works for me). I think I will take Costa's advice and have a whiskey ?
Mannemarak (what does that mean anyway ?) - A simple yet touching piece, You called it Heart, and it seems to flow from there. Loved your picking and it stirred up things in my heart that I cant really explain, A tad sad with a touch of hope.
Still listening to the others

Tremolo on the bass part. On the melody part there's a (digs out Line 6 manual) "Pitch Vibrato" which is an emulation of the Boss VB-2.

Too kind. Thanks.

FruitarGeek - great piece, love the single note intro and outro, The bass buildup bringing the guitar textures together are also great. Love it when you bring the bit of synth into the piece, the slight bends on part of the melody, top class stuff.
Deefstes - a lot of work went into this piece, really love the whole arrangement. I echo a lot of what costa has said already. Father of the bride kind of stuff, everyone gone, empty hall ?
Schmorglebot - Love this piece, love the droning bass and the picked melody, and the introduction of the second guitar really adds mood to the overall tune. David Lynch (Twin Peaks etc) could use this in one of his films.
Still listening to the other

I didn't just go for the more technically superior or better played entries, but rather those that captured the spirit of the competition best. My votes:
Jacquesg4j - Impressive for the beginners category
Squonk - only a few pre-bends away from capturing Gilmour
PeteM - Great as always.

Great stuff guys! I enjoyed this challenge. It was a great theme that offered lots of scope. It was fun putting together a little song but it was great to hear all the other entries, you guys humble me ?
I'll add some comments on a few of the entries that I particularly liked.
PeteM - Yours was by far my favourite. I love the simple but strong melodic line. The song just oozes nostalgia and longing. I can imagine it being used towards the end of a movie where the bereaved widow looks from her rocking chair out of the window into a rainy day, replaying memories of happier times in her mind. Probably nothing like the picture you had in mind when you wrote the song, but that's what my mind conjured up. ?
Schmorglebot - Also a very nice piece that really talked to me. There's something about it that reminds me of Twin Peaks but I can't put my finger on it. Either way, it is very well played and it captures an emotion expertly.
Jacquesg4j - If this is your "first production, composition and recording" there is no hope for the rest of us when become even more experienced ? The recording and the guitar playing is very well done but you really captured an emotion as well which makes yours score in every aspect that counts.
CostaFonix - Another one of my favourite entries. Interesting how many of these songs conjures up fictional scenes from fictional movies. With this one I'm seeing a Mexican woman folding away the blood stained clothes of her fallen husband. My only criticism would be that the ending was very abrupt.
FruitarGeek - This one also stood out to me. I liked the electronic bells (or whatever you'd call it) that joins in halfway through and I also liked the two simple notes on which you ended the song. So simple but so effective. On a technical point, I loved that bend on the fourth note of the first repeat of the main phrase. Would you care to explain to me exactly what you did there? It sounds like the note starts low and then bends up to the correct note and back down again. How do you do that? Whammy bar?
Squonk - Awesome tone on the lead guitar and really played with feeling. It has a strong Gary Moore feel to it (which in my book is epic win). The fact that it didn't remind me of David Gilmore is only because I can't say that I know Gilmore all that well. Regardless, this has to be one of the strongest entries for this month's challenge. Also an abrupt ending unfortunately though.

Thanks FruitarGeek....nice of you to go into detail like that. I appreciate it.
In reality.......that is how I imagined the answers would be, I wanted to be sure though.
Yeah, I might throw down if I am feeling the challenge guidelines of the month. Looking forward to seeing what the next challenge is.
Sorry to use up space here with my questions.....no posting allowed at the rules thread or I would have done it there.
Thanks again.

Bah this entry of mine sucks. I did it in one take basically. Just did not have the time to put all the things I wanted to put in it. I hated it but an entry is better than no entry ? :'(

Mannemarak is and old Afrikaans childrens character, educational program, my mom called me that since I watched the program religiously. It stuck ?
Thanks for the comment, I called it 'Heart' since it can be happy heart, broken heart, angry heart, depends on the listener I guess.
Thanks for all the other comments from you guys, it really inspires me to try and play more and get better, was kinda stuck in a rut regarding guitar playing.

Pity this video cuts off the first (and most important) word of the song, but here it is for your edumacation ?

Id just like to say thanks to all the guy s that had kind words to say, this must be what its like when your kid does well at school, I feel all proud and wotnot. Continuing with that analogy, I cant wait to have another kid next month, I just hope its better than this one.
As for the Twin Peaks vibe that was mentioned, my dad has got the box set, so maybe its somehow creeped into my psyche.
Finally, for those who care the song was recorded with an Ibanez Artcore rhythm and "lead", I EQ'd the crap out of it to try and emulate a Vibrophone and then used some jazz bass knock off from the 70s on top of that, and my favorite, reverb.
Now I just have to figure out how to add drums...

Jis ja, some great entries hey. My favourites are Jacques, Costafonix and XrB. This by no means detracts from the other entries though - just my personal preference. Will try and give some comments when time allows it, but for now just a Big Fat Well Done to all the entrants.

This has been a fun challenge. I can hardly wait to hear what the theme for the next one is. Jacquesg4j, I hope you're already ruminating...

The story so far - Out of 34 voters only 27 cast a (B) vote, 29 an (A) vote yet a stunning 35 cast an (I) votes. Guys try not vote twice in the same category. BTW Jaques can you PM the challenge topic for May, (I doubt that anyone is going to match your total) 8)
