Too old to learn to play?

Chris77's evolution thread got me pondering. How old is too old to start learning the guit, with the aim of becoming an excellent, gig-worthy player? Or is it a dumb question? I only started when I turned 34, and my biggest regret is not having started sooner. It seems like all of the decent players I've met started early, which kinda makes me doubt myself and second-guess my personal goals.

In the cyclopean city of R'lyeh, there is no one to help you.

One thing is for sure- I REFUSE TO GIVE IN!

Damn straight. Nothing to stop you being a guitar player you and anyone else can be proud of.

p.s. If Esteban wants to jam more, chances are he didn't hate it as much as you're making out.

A healthy pair of hands and a healthy mind is all you need, that's what I love about art in general.
There are no age restrictions to learning as opposed to being a professional sportsman etc.
Don't the flamenco guys play like till their 90 something?
Dave Brubeck is, I think, 92 and still tearing it up on piano. As long as you enjoy it, that's ALL that matters.

Which may be explaining the problems I'm having with the guitar. But seriously, I hope it's not too old because I started bit more than two years ago at 50 and I'm starting to itch terribly to play with someone. You know, guitar.

I have been reading this threat with great interest. Myself, I have been on and off, more off, for the last 30 years. I am now 47 and try to make at least a hour every day for practice.
Everything that was said is true, but I think the most important thing is that you MUST have fun. Whether you play like Eric Clapton or like Jou Soap with extremely little tallent. If you have fun, you will achieve your targets.
