I like Limp Bizkit,Crazy Town,Insne Poetry,Linkin Park,RHCP,SOAD,RATM and etc.
And I want to buy a guitar,so could you guys help me please?!I'm looking forward to buy a Ibanez GRG 270,I'm getting a Gio coz I'm a begginer and its good with my budget!
So please wise people help me out!
P.S. Help me out with the amp as well!
Cheers
Kalcium
My suggestion is to look at the classifieds section here and look on gumtree for a secondhand guitar and amp. Then from whats available choose something that will suit your style. A secondhand guitar will be a lot cheaper than brand new so for the same price you get a much better guitar. Or if you get a relatively cheap guitar it will be cheap enough to not be much of a loss if you find guitar is not for you and want to give up ? In addition to that, make sure you check the forum for advice on actually playing guitar ? Look around for things you might be wondering about and if you don't find it just feel free to ask and many wise people will give you advice ?
About the guitar definitely look at secondhand stuff ? If theres a deal on gumtree you think is cool but you're not sure just tell us about it here and we'll let you know what we think. When you're starting out theres a lot that looks better than it is, dont be afraid to ask first, its the best way to learn ?
I recommend maybe buying this Cort guitar
http://johannesburg.gumtree.co.za/c-Stuff-for-Sale-musical-instruments-LINE-6-SPIDER-3-30W-AMP-CORT-X-ELECTRIC-GUITAR-BEHRINGER-BOSS-W0QQAdIdZ274697980
But maybe not that amp...but a guitar is a start, cort make good guitars at good prices ?

So you think is betta a second hand,right?!.....I was thinking about it too.... :-\
"In addition to that, make sure you check the forum for advice on actually playing guitar"???...What do you mean?
So,is the GRG270 that bad?? ☹
This Cort guitar is siccccccccck!I liked it...But is it compatible with the genre that I want to play?!?!
And about the amp....Shit,its Line6 and only R1800,don't you think it's a good deal?! ?
Lethe
IMO what makes a guitar 'metal' is usually it's look. Other than that you just need a guitar with high output humbuckers and a high gain amp or pedal. If you wanna downtune ( which is standard for nu-metal) get a baritone or seven string. But a standard 6 string is fine too.
smiles_b
Lethe it seems that you know what I'm looking for...Just name me some brands and models please...And where I can buy 'em,plus in Jozi you guys have lots of good music shops!
Lethe
It's hard for me to name you exact models as I'm more of the guy who walks into a shop looks and tries out whatever they have and if I like it I buy it. You should try it. My favourite music shop in Johannesburg is Music Connection on Jan Smuts (TOMS is also good though). Great selection and great prizes. Don't get hung up on brands and models. Just go there and test stuff out. If it feels good and makes your heart rate go buy it. Of course you're probably worries about the quiality of the guitar so since you said that you're a beginner and like metal, I would have suggested something by Ibanez as their guitars are usually easy to play and decently built. I don't know details about the GIO so maybe someone else can say somtething about that. The RG/RGA series are usually great IMO as they're quite cheap and play well. Cheap Fender Squires are usually also decent but not exactly metal. I think Cort also have some pretty metal guitars. Then there is ESP and PRS but they are expensive.

I don't know the GRG270 but I've heard that the gios are very playable but don't sound great. Corts are fine for your genre, I certainly wouldn't buy that cort for playing mellow rock ? I have a Cort that I was using for metal, only selling it cause im not so into metal anymore...at one stage i had it tuned to drop Bb for parkway drive songs ? ...If you do go for that guitar make sure you try it before you buy it just to make sure its all 100% working ? You'll see a little switch next to the knobs for pickup selection just move that around and make sure it works with it in all positions, my first guitar had/has a faulty pickup selector, but it was a SUPER cheap secondhand guitar so ya ? haha
About the amp its probably 1 of line6's cheaper amps, there is a Marshall MG15DFX on gumtree for R1000 which is a saving of R800 and they're not bad for starting out, i still have my MG50DFX (same range as the MG15DFX...) and its great for starting out cause it gives you a few effects too, plus whether you get the line6 or the marshall you're probably gonna want to upgrade at some point, in which case I'd rather have only spent R1000 on the amp i dont use anymore ?

Billy lets lookat specifics..
do want a hardtail or a trem, do you want elaborate shapes or just a wicked headstock,
for the music you want high output buckers, do you want new or second hand,
what is your budget?
Are you interested in tuning lwer than D or not really? I see youre in pta.. there are a few places yo could look at but I would recommend going 2nd hand. You can get more guit for your dosh.
Gimme a shout if you need help dude bt certainly anwering some of the above will narrow it down.. a bit anyways..

But u do dat,coz u already know enough about electr. guitars and stuff,u can distinguish whether this guitar is betta bout this and that...Unfortunately I not good enough for that!
The other thing is that I live in PTA,and I won't be able to go to Jozi for testing the guitars(but I'd like to do dat) any time soon...So that's why I want to have a certain idea from u guys,so then when I get to the shop I'll know what to buy!I dont want to buy an expensive guiar, but I dnt want to regret after as well!

I think I'd like a tremolo(But it's not that important),about the headstock it's not that important for me!
I'm thinking about a seconhand now...But now is a trouble to find a good metal secondhand guitar in Gauteng(coz I've been checking da sites).....
Bro,my budget is till R3000!Yeah,certainly I'm looking forward to tune low!The roblem bout PTA's shops is dat they dont have many varieties of guitars and sey're expensive!
guidothepimmp
if youre looking to tune down, I would not recommend a trem like a floyd. A hard tail would be my recommendation. Reason is you'll have issues stabilizing the trem everytime you need to tune.
The GRG270 has one of these trems. If youre happy going GIO, then Id look at the hardtail (the non trem version)
Id suggest a longer scale like 25.5 inch too, just for comfort sake and they tend to handle lower tuning better. I wouldnt look at baritone for starters.
Cort make great guitars and I would certainly recommend those too. Models like the X12 or X6. They are slightly more pricey but you can find them 2nd hand for relatively cheap. I cant recall which X series guit is the hardtail. Just google it.
Check this sites classifieds too.
Check out music boyz in moreleta, they have a decent range to try. Also there is Musika in atterbury value mart that has a good range. There is even Jean music by the KFC. Also got a decent range.
I agree with lethe abouttrying them but if you are totally noob that means nothing. So brands to look out for are COrt, Ibanez RG or GIO, Schecter, Squire, YAMAHA PACIFICA, even some the entry level washburns like the X series.
So in summary, preferably no trem (considering the tunings) and a humbucker pup in the bridge.
Personally between the line 6 and the Roland, i like the Roland more. Played a few and theyre great value for starters, especially with the built in effects.
Kalcium
Yeah Guido has some good points ? About the amp I haven't tried either of those amps but I've only heard good things about the Roland Cubes so I'd say go with that, but maybe someone here knows about that line6...google the line6 model number and see what the reviews say...Or I will do that now quick and let you know ?
Kalcium
Ok I read up on it and the line 6 seems like a good amp for what you want to do ? I'd say offer the guy R2500 for the guitar and amp maybe you'll get lucky and he'll take it, else R2800 is not so bad for a guitar and amp, you can pretend the guitar cost R1500 and the amp R1300 ?. The guitar has a flloyd rose trem though which will be a mission for you to learn to tune, but if you're willing to put in the effort that seems like a really good guitar for the price!
guidothepimmp
snap, thats good investigative work Kal,
Thats a good guit, X6 are great value.
It does have a trem though.. If all else fails and the dude needs a hand there are plenty guys here who can lend a hand.. (me included).
I aGREE, for the amp and guit R2500/ R2800 is a steal..
