Guitar Tuner pedals..?? which one??

I am thinking of getting a tuner pedal.

I am hoping it would be a bit harder to misplace than the current headstock tuners that I cant find...

Anything I need to know? look out for?? are they all pretty much the same or do each brand have their own pro's and cons??

will appreciate being steered down the right path on this one..

As far as I can see they're all more or less similar. I guess these are the most popular ones:

Korg Pitchblack
Boss TU-2, TU-3
TC Polytune
Digitech Hardwire Tuner

The Pitchblack is small, cheap and works very well. Can't go wrong.

Korg pitchblack. Before I started sing Jack Flash's, I had no idea a tuner could be so fun. And they're cheap too (still need to pick up one of my own though). Look no further IMO.

TC Polytune is the best out there IMO. But it carries the price-tag to match. If you want something that will help you tune up super-fast during a gig, it's great. Otherwise, I'd get the Korg and save myself some money.

They're not all the same. The Polytune, for example, has a mode in which it will show you an inidicator for each string so you can strum the open strings (in standard tuning anyway) and the pedal will tell you if each string is sharp, flat or in tune.

I have a TU-3. I bought that because I found the display gave a quick response and was very intuitive to use.

Some folks speak well of the Pitch Black, but another GFSAer has found stability problems with it.

Don't just google. Go to a shop and try them out. Understand the different features and the information the display conveys. Try to establish what will work for you. EG if you use altered tunings you want a tuner that will actually show you the note - clearly and legibly - including a sharp or flat symbol. Also some of the special features (like the 6 string display on the Polytune) may not work with altered tunings and so you'd be spending money for features that you can't use.

bringing into play an entirely new definition for the word "cheap" that I was previously unaware of..... ???

i can buy 20 head stock tuners for that and not have to worry again about not having something to tune with for at least 24 months...

on principle - its a guitar tuner after all - no ways can I justify spending that amount of dosh on a guitar tuner.... ???

I looked at the polytune and didnt like in the end I bought boss tu-3 for under 700. I see that take2 has pitchblack for about 1 G.

thanks for the sound advice as always Bob, but it appears this issue has resolved itself at the price tag.... i was expecting to head into the mid to high hundreds, but when it starts knocking on the 2K mark for a guitar tuner.. well my anti-insanity drive kicked in.

+1 on the pitchblack. It works well, is true bypass and is very visible (the big downfall of the TC IMO).
