Was seriusley interested in a Maingard (sp?) 2 years ago and after speaking to Marc, was aadvised that they were taking orders that July and I would be contacted for an appointment to finalise and discuss options etc. 2 years later, and still waiting for my call! (Yes, I did make contact again and was given the run around with a further promise of a call when a slot opened in a month's time, again never got the call - so left it!! >☹)
Last I heard he wasn't taking orders for the time being. All his guitars seem to be going to dealers in the USA and are attracting high prices. That's partly because he has a legit source of Brazilian Rosewood.
These kind of boutique builders generally cannot take on too much work at one time. If they want to up production they have to start automating or have more staff and thus a less hands-on approach.
I'd imagine that even without shipping etc you'd still pay a fair whack for a Maingard because he can get a lot of money for those instruments in the USA.
Still, it costs nothing to ask.
Did you get around to talking prices?
