Which would be better for recording acoustic guitar and if I get a little bolder, some vocals as well because I really want to sing but hell! It's not good hey. OK, a Rode NT1-A or Shure SM57? The Shure is cheaper but looks like you get more in the basic package deal with the NT1-A anyway. Maybe you can suggest some others?

For recording vocals and acoustic guitar I'd go NT1-A. Can be a bit sibilant on the vocals (especially female), but captures a lot of detail an SM57 won't, especially for acoustic.

For acoustic guitar, it's probably best to try a condenser mic like the Rode. And it also does vocals.
Although, if I were you I would check out some sE mics before the Rode as I think they sound better and they are in the same sort of league. Their sE1a sounds pretty good for small diaphragm. Another option (for about $100 more) is the Audio Technica 4033. It's a great all round mic and probably the best out of Rode and the sE.
If you're going to guy a condenser, consider buying two (a matched pair) so you can try some stereo miking later on. A good stereo pair of condensers will never let you down.
Cheers ?

Thanks folks. Some extra options - I'll shop around to do some $ comparisons.

Also have a look at the SM-27 from Shure. Great Large diaphragm condenser microphone at an affordable price.
I've used one for both vocals and acoustic guitar with great results.
