anyone on gfsa own a fender princton reverb reissue amp ?

i'm keen to hear this amp , or if you faraway least chat to you about your feeling on it .... i done some internet research and it's an amp that seems to have fans and haters ...... some love the 10" speaker others swop it for a 12" .....some say it distorts easily some people like my current favourite guitarist jim campilongo uses one on 10 and it's great and it's almost all he uses for pro gigs in new york clubs..... but others say that it's too small for gigging with a drummer...but jim gigs with a drummer and is fine..so many questions.....and obviously 1st prize would be to find one in jhb i could try out...... as i want a fender tube amp....... and it's the blues junior if i don't have sufficient budget , if the bank balance looks healthy it may be the blues deluxe or another choice would be the princeton reverb reissue...... which is about same price as a deluxe or slightly cheaper but almost double the cost of the blues junior ..... i have played on the blues junior and the deluxe but NOt the princeton so please any comments on the amps (all 3) would be appreciated....... and bear in my my choice of amp is suited to my genre ...which i would say would be orignal experimental electric instrumental style ( to suppliment my acoustic original set ) and i will use if for jazz gigs too so NOT for hard rock or metal or particulary loud gigs........ it's that fender tone i want NOT volume ......

Some versions of the Deluxe were 12W. The BF and BF Reissue are 15W. The Jenson C10R isn't a particularly efficient speaker (94.7dB), so by putting in a more efficient speaker you can make a big difference - e.g. many of the Eminence patriot series 10" are around 100dB, and the extra 5dBs will almost double your volume.

so i am worried the princeton will not be loud enough at the clean enough tone i want.......( i can have an edge to my sound as slight breakup but not distortion )
I think you'll find it is, until you're playing in ensembles with drums, bass and vocals - by which point there is usually a PA involved anyway.

thanks alan .. cos it would be very comforting to know that if i decide to go the princeton route that a speaker upgrade can add as much as double the volume. then i think it's not a prob anymore to worry about volume cos i played the blues junior ..also 15W and that was loud and clean at quite high levels........... i have unfortunately read some not so great things re the blues junior .......that the reverb isNOT up to par and that it hiss's too much so pity cos i can get one at about 6.5K so half the price of the princeton but by what the online forums say the quality is bad....in comparison to a princeton .... and great as a 1st tube amp .but i don't want to just have a gap filler but something i can cherish and use for a while to come.........also financially i'm doing well so i can afford it now (the princeton or the deluxe reverb) so may as well buy correctly 1st time..........

vic with all due respect to you and other vox fans....... the clean tone on a vox can't stand up to a bf fender and yes that my opinion ...... but i love the vox for rockier tones......but i'm a clean with slight breakup freak ...... technically i'm looking for one sound only and thats that fender tone , so i don't need a versatile amp or a loud amp....but just a one trick pony of an amp that gets that fender clean/breakup sound ........ and i want the fender spring reverb and that gorgeous tremelo .... ? so yes short of an amp builder cloning a fender for me i will just buy a fender...... cos all one needs do to get the sound i want is turn the amp on .....no fiddling it;s the default sound on the deluxe and princeton ..... ?
heheh vic i even spent the cash on that usa fender strat just so i could get that sound that is pure magic, when you plug a nice fender guitar into a fender amp

Now you're losing me. If Fender amps were meant for Fender guitars, there wouldn't have been a Peter Green. ?

A bit steep ($70 new retail), but Eminence are hard to find locally and it's a really good speaker, so I'd probably be happy paying that.

I know exactly where Keira is coming from. Much as I love Vox, they are never quite clean, there is always a little grit. Nothing does clean to verge of drive like Fender into Fender.

? not saying you can't use other amps or guitars...BUT for me/myself /personally the sound that has me intruiged is that single coil fender into a black face tube fender amp .note i'm specific re the pups and the amp..... i woulda bought mika's bassman like a shot for the 6 K he's asking and just bult it into a 2x10 cab or a 1x12 for it cos a 4x10 is overkill for me...... but it does not sound the same as a deluxe...... it sound like a bassman so not all fender amps are even the same....... anyway i know now at least what i want ........ ?

I think it's somewhere in this thread that MJJJ ? spoke some about the Superchamp XD. Not ready to consider that? On some other forums there are quite a lot of people who reckon that for the price it's just about the mutt's nuts. I've got one not that I use it for anything special but I got it new and cheap very cheap. You can get it for under 5 G's. And also it gives a few other possibilities as well.

howzit ray , i did actually answer that post , but in a long one.so quickly just for you ... ?

i don't need this amp to do my gigs ...but i will use it if i get it of course...

this idea of buying a fender tube bf amp is acually a gift to myself for doing what i';m doing at sun city ....

so a half tube half modelling amp does not interest me at all.cos at the moment i'm doing the gigs with modelling anyway and sounding good .......

and it's also not a price issue..hehehhenow how often have you heard a full time working musician say money is NOT the option ...... ? but in last 6 months i done about 240 gigs and got another 3 months booked starting may so i'm not leaving sun city at end of april as i thought just moving to another hotel .....who approached me when they heard i was leaving . so yeah i can afford the asking price of the princeton .....

but just i have scottish blood from my mother and jewish blood from my father both nations that inherantly watch money quite carefully , and the notion that i'm getting charged 13K for an amp that sells for 6 k over the atlantic is what irks me

and yes i heard all the arguments..

but my "value for money" instincts i inherited tell me i'm paying 13 k for something thats not worth 13 K so thats why i'm hesitating .... it's almost a matter of principle....... do people still have principles today ???

also it's my activist streak thats making me kick up a fuss about this.and out of principle i might NOT even buy one new and wait till i get one 2nd hand or get someone to build me one if it's possible ......

so yeah ray ...... it's not about the product ( which is what i want ..... a princeton or deluxe reverb or at least a nice sounding blues junior..i believe some are better than others ..even straight from the factory ..or so they say online.... ) and money is not the issue...... and i don't need the amp for my gigs..... it's a gift from me to me for me cos i love that sound.....

but crazy me must get my head around spending double what the amps worth in real world terms.......
