Hunting around for Robert Van Der Linde

Dave-the-Pub-muso

Hi guys - does anyone know where i can find find Robert Van Der linde. He's a Durban based guitar tech. Over a year ago I gave in my Yairi 1971 flamenco guitar for repairs. He has since moved locations twice and is not answering calls or emails. I fear the worst (that he has been liquidated and my guitar repossessed by some debtor). Any clues about where to find him?

I believe he emigrated to the UK recently.

Was he the old guy that used to be on frere road? Cause I gave my guitar to him to do some repairs a while ago, maybe 2 years ago maybe a bit less and it was repaired and I got it back, but at the time when I met him he was just busy moving to a new location. I'll go past and try see if they're still there, cause I know I was curious about contacting him for some more work at some stage but when I drove past there was no sign...its in a sort of complex place with a few other shops and things behind a big gate. When I was first there he'd said they were gonna get a sign up soon but maybe they never got round to it. I'll hoot at the gate and try find out all I can though, losing a guitar is NOT cool so I'll try my best hey.

EDIT: Eish lets hope he didn't emigrate...

Ja he did move.

I tried calling some of his band mates but they are busy. I'll try get an answer for you as to what happened to the stuff in his shop if maybe someone has taken it over.

Thanks for the help guys. i know he moved from Frere Road to a complex near a corner on Umbilo Road, but I went there and someone told me that there was no guitar shop!?
I will keep up the search, so any info would be great!

He has moved to the UK or at least that's what his plan was a few weeks ago. Zacks at the wharf on Tuesday night would be the place for info. His band plays there.

Yeah it was on McDonald road if i remember correctly, right near umblilo road, there definitely was a shop there for a bit though, i went inside to fetch my guitar when he'd done the work on it...but clearly its not there anymore ?

They had a farewell gig for him at Zaks last Tuesday. I think he has left for the UK.

Robert Emigrated to the UK about 2 weeks ago.

He strung me along with 2 of my guitars (after having them for about 9 months) - Luckily I was keeping tabs on him and followed him all around durban and managed to get hold of them - unfinished and missing pieces just before he left , I spoke to him on the morning he left and fetched my guitars from his cousin's house a day or 2 after that. There were a lot of dusty and half finished guitars lying around.
☹
Not cool for the people that they belonged to.

A Decent guy not sure why he was behaving like that , quite sad actually.

PM me if you want his cousins address - I don't have any telephone numbers.

And if anyone has any Epiphone compatible bridge post/tailpiece female side lugs (the parts on the body the bridge posts screw into)
Please let me know - I need 4!!!
?

Skylark

Can someone PM me his email address if they have it please!

They are called anchors. I might have a single pair of tailpiece studs and anchors I took from my 12-string when I fitted TonePros locking studs. I'll check.

To find the right bridge posts and anchors you'll have to measure the hole in the bridge (4mm or 6mm diameters)

Yeah I have a pair of tailpiece stud/anchor combos in nickel. If you want 'em, PM me your name, address and telephone number. I'll drop them in the post next week.

Skylark

Thanks Alan! ?
I'll PM you if I need them - Just considering my options on eBay & Stewmac.
At Stewmac I can get the Gotoh Complete bridge & aluminium tailpiece (both with posts & anchors) incl slow shipping for R490.
The aluminium tailpiece is apparently very nice.
Anyone ever ordered from stewmac - Prices seem incredibly reasonable - even less that eBay ???

Jeez, nice guy or not, that's just k@k style. :-o I hope everybody that got screwed over by this guy get their guitars back.

Dave-the-Pub-muso

Hi again and thanks for the updates. I have managed to get a number for Robert's cousin (who apparently has acces to the guitars). I've left a message and am looking forward to a successful response. If anyone wants the number, please PM me.
