I'm so useless at effects it's not funny. I struggle to get a sound I like and then I struggle even harder to get back to it, so I'm experimenting. I've started putting bits of masking tape on my pedal with numbers representing the settings I like.
DS-1: 9, 5, 2
DD-3: 10, 10, 9, 800ms
This sounds pretty decent for soloing and stuff. I like it.
But my question is, which should come first? I currently have it as: guitar -> ds-1 -> dd-3 -> amp
I know it's horses for courses but what's the sort of rule of thumb or can I get better tone by moving it around?
And what other settings could you recommend for these pedals? (The numbers are, of course "o' clock". ie: 9 o' clock, 5 o'clock, 2 o'clock)

The way you have it now seems good. Delay after distortion is usually good.
I havnt fiddled with my DD-3 in a while (it broke) but I will try bring back some good ones to use.
1) Chopper Slapback
E.LVL - 2.oclock
F.Back - lowest
D.Time anywhere really, experiment, but I usually have it at 10.oclock (on 800.m.s)
A personal favourite was
E.LVL - 2/3
F.Back - 11
D.Time - 1
800 m.s.
Lastly, for some real trippy space noises do this.
Set E.LVL and F.Back to MAX, that way when you strum a chord it will delay it for ever
Use the E.LVL to control the volume, cause it will get loud, and use the D.Time to change the pitch. its really really fun ?

Yeah, you have the order right.
In the days before programmable delays and patch saving, I used to have a little book where I wrote down any interesting settings I found. It helps to keep all the settings in one place (until you lose it that is ?).
I also used (and still have) a book of delay time to tempo settings when I started using delays with precise delay time settings. I use a delay time calculator app when needed these days, but most of the more advanced delays I use in studio work it out themselves - you just set the tempo (manually in BPM or by using the tap tempo feature) and choose a note value.

Thanks guys ? I'm quite chuffed with the combo I got going now although still unimpressed with the pups but that's about to be fixed. More on that in a different thread ?
