So there are some DotA players on here, nice ? Basshunter song here: (Beware, guitarists might hate it! ?)

Some mates and I moved over to League of Legends [LoL] a few months ago. If you're a big DotA fan it's a fantastic "upgrade" to what you already know and love. The champs are varied and interesting, the items and builds easy to understand. Many of the issues around DotA play online are resolved (the network code is much better, meaning you can reconnect if you DC etc.). There is also a proper matchmaking feature for both normal and ranked games.

Main drawback is that the infrastructure is sometimes a bit wobbly outside of the actual game engine. The client for buying champs, skins etc. and starting games is all done in Adobe Air which I really don't like at all. The game engine itself has been rock solid, and the graphical style is great.

Maybe the coolest aspect: the game is free! You can download the LoL client (it's about 1Gb) and play for free. Every week a number of champs are randomly made available for free play, with a fresh rotation every week. You can buy champs permanently using in-game points that you earn from playing, or you can buy other points using real money (this is the game's business model). Things like champ skins (some of which are really awesome) are only available using real money, but aren't necessary to play the game.

Highly recommended to any fans of DotA style gameplay.

The big rival to LoL is Heroes of Newerth [HoN] which is, again, another revamp of the basic DotA idea. HoN looks pretty cool, but is much more of a straight DotA clone than LoL. Many of the heroes are identical to heroes in DotA, which I find a bit of a shame since if I wanted to just play DotA, I would. ? However, for those of you keen on the original DotA experience on an updated platform, it's worth a look (but is not free to play).

I was a WoWhead for about 4 years. Downed Lich King last year and decided I was spending far too much time on it, and wanted to focus energy elsewhere. ?

Was on the EU servers, on Lightbringer. Originally played a dorf huntard, then was on the horde side for a bit. My last main toon was an Orc Death Knight Blood tank. Smacking Arthas's face in was most rewarding.

I bought Cataclysm, but haven't played at all since its release.

I played dota for a bit. Never a lot though. My friends were clannies and played in some comps. Clan was high-5. HoN is pretty shiny though which they were all into ultil SCII came out.

SCII has something called Storm of the Imperial Sanctum. Never checked it out, but I believe it's the DotA equivalent for SCII.

I'm actually not a huge strat game fan, but I really like the MOBA style games (like DotA and LoL).

Ya I was a bit of a dota addict once upon a time... while studying at stages I'd spend 8+ hours a day gaming switching between quake 3 and dota... hehe. but there were some other things going on at the time that made me not really have much motivation to do anything else. One of the reasons I started playing guitar again is to put all that time into something a bit more constructive ?

Nowadays I only binge game once every few months...

RGC (Ranked Gaming Client) is a bit like Garena, in that its international and the interface is a separate program which then links you to games which you find under Lan Games rather than battlenet. If you play on there, even the european pub games have some sort of structure in that people know about roles and you play -cm games which are proper. Also even though its international the delay is really not bad in that there are good host bots so on my 384 i get a ping of about 150. Also RGC has a built in reconnect tool as well ? A lot of the best players on SA Battlenet hardly play nowadays though so like IHL games never get played anymore (yes i am in IHL...assuming you know what it is...?) they made an IHL2 to try get a few more 'better' games going but thats also mostly dead now with about 1 game per week...also quite a few decent players moved to HoN...

Used to play alot of DOTA & WOW while at Varsity...some of my favourite heroes on DOTA:

Skeleton King, Rotund'jere the Necrolyte, Witch King, Blood Seeker.

WOW...

62 Undead Warlock, 60 Tauren Druid, 68 Dark Elf Rouge, 65 Dwarven Warrior, 70 Draenei Paladin + some other.

I used to rock out on Bnet quite a lot. Until my level 29 account got locked by an admin. That was an epic game. Turns out constantly stealing an admin's kills with Mercurial wasn't such a bright idea. Ganymede you -@_++_@+-+! Glad to say I'm clean for about 2 years now ?

ROFL! Gany'd ? haha Gany hasnt been around for a LONG time ? ...with regards to levels you dont really level up much after you hit 40...My main is level 44, my 1st smurf is now 29....:>

I had two other relatively high accounts as well, but I gave them away when I quit. The one was called Bertrand Russell and the the was called Rose of Sharyn. When Gany locked my main account I created another one, but could obviously join level 0 games. I think it was about the 2nd or 3rd game on that account when a guy bought 2 boots of speed for lycan, arguing he had two feet. Whether he did that because he wanted to be funny or because he was a genuine noob, I don't know. At that stage I decided 'f@?k it, I'm out'. Haven't played since, apart from the odd lan.

Level 40 is quite hectic. Must have taken quite a few games? If you'd have spent that time playing guitar you'd be Petrucci by now ?.

My total games played if i add all accounts is about 2500, my brother, has about 4800...my brother was WAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY too addicted to dota...but yeah sometimes i really wish I played less dota and more guitar... ?
