Whats the big HooHaa about Phasers

I noticed that a lot (and I mean A LOT) of you on the forum go absolutely mad for phasers. I can respect your passion for them, but I must ask...

why are you all so mad about phasers? On my personal list of effects they rank like maybe 9th. I dont own one, and don't really plan on getting one soon. Unless its the Tap-O-Whirl, That thing is sweet-a-licious.

I agree, for the 1 in 100 songs I'd use it for it can't hold a spot on my pedal board (same as wah).

I love phaser. Although I noticed though that the modern digital ones don't sound like anything at all. I've spent hours jamming with my old Ibanez Phazer set on low rate, gradually surfing those troughs and peaks is such a psychedelic experience, like a tsunami wave.. Also god with some delay, and sometimes overdrive.

The higher rates are good to recreate the rhythm in a lot of 60s rock, and a low depth is good alternative to chorus.

I prefer it to flanger as that comes with a bit of pitch shifting resonance, and sounds more modern, phaser is more classic psychedelic. ?

Phasers are great. A good phaser adds what I can only describe as "chewiness" to the sound. They also create "movement" in the sound without the pitch artefacts that chorus or most other modulation effects have.

Probably auto-wah or wah. Although a fast-ish phaser might work on that too.

When I had my first jam session with a mate, I struggled to find a tone that complimented his bass riff. Until I stumbled upon a phaser preset. Adding a bit of delay filled my tone up beautifully and we spent the better part of an hour uncovering little gems in the tune as the phases ebbed and flowed.

haha no way ? LoL is just pub from what I've heard, there is no such thing as a serious game of LoL...or am I wrong? DotA is just a more fun version of chess ? the strategy in it is equal, plus theres the actual execution of the strategy ? (I used to play quite a lot of clan dota...haha)

Well Flangers are quite non-essential too. So thats not saying much hahaha. Definitely Psychedelic though

Yes. But why is it your favourite?

I can understand that a phaser is a good toy to have in your aresenal, but to go as far as calling it essential might be a bit overboard. I rank it alongside Flanger, Autowah etc. namely pedals that are fun to have, but cannot apply to all music. Im just seeing a lot of hype around phasers, and I know its personal taste, but sometimes I wonder why the forum members will place this on their top 5 selection.
