Hi,
Just wanted to warn eveyone about this.
There is a 50th Anniversary Strat for sale in Springbok in the Northern Cape for a very good price. I contacted the guy, he took my call and he claims to be a Saudi Arabian living on Springbok and going back there later this month. I did some further investigation as there are some pictures posted. I then uncovered an identical picture from an old Gumtree advert in Australia.
There is also a similar advert for a 2000 USA Strat in Upington that also looks suspect.
Ja beware hey. A lot of these crooks like to use the Northern Cape for their scams because the towns here are so remote. It provides them with the perfect way to get you to pay for (fictional) goods unseen because you can't check out and pay for the gear in person.
I travel a bit in the NCape and have tried my luck with some of these ads in the past, but as soon as you tell them "Great I can pick up the guitar on Friday and will pay you then" they go silent. One tried to sell me the story that his parents doesn't want him to sell the guitar and that I can't come to pick it up because they will kill him. I rather have to pay the money into his uncle's account who would smuggle the guitar out of the house and then send it on to me. Another scamster apparently hailing from Kimberley had very conveniently left town overnight when I told him I live right around the block and can be there in 20 minutes to check out the guitar and was now in Durban (from where he would gladly courier me the guitar once payment had cleared...)
