Which module would you say does a better Hammond-without-Leslie, a Roland D-110 or a E-mu Proteus? They go for about the same (low) price and I only have 1up to spend. Leslie could be done easily with the effects I've got. Need to know!

Proteus - newer module, better sound quality and better at doing the sample-based stuff for more natural sounds. I love the old D-110, but they are best for synth textures.

If you can lay your hands on one of the "Vintage Keys" Proteus modules, they were pretty awesome for the time.

Been in love with the Hammond sound since I can remember. And I agree that a big part of that has to be it ability to cut through and simultaneously colour the overall sound palate when used in conjunction with guitars. It just adds a depth and b*&lls to the sound when you hear guys like Winwood< wakeman and Lord in full flight on those classic recordings.

btw my mother played hammond very well and had one with built in valve amp not sure what model but it had the drawbars and double keyboard ..... i don't know what became of it tho ........ i spent some years travelling to return to it gone....... pity i woulda kept that

also in the 90's i remember i was passing thru durban on my travels and saw a dude "russel" play a fabulously beer soaked hammond .....he was a fabulous and exciting player ....... and had a cool band too .........

i see no one mentioned "the Doors" here .they had sme awesome hammond type pieces in their sets .......

I remember one like this being delivered to our home in the early 70s. Cost about 2k then! We eventually sold it in '74 and had a pool built with the money ?

I actually had the Fame and Price album, inherited from me mum plus the Yeh Yeh single. These and a host of 78's, and LP's all got stolen when we moved house in the 70's.

I have advertised for over a year on London's
'Gumtree' seeking a hammond player and never had
a single reply.

My band, The Hubcaps, has me on Bluesharp and vocals,
with bass and drums. I don't want a guitarist, I want
hammond !!!! Cannot find one.
