On Saturday night went for a meal @ The Riverdeck in Peter Road Honeydew
The setting was great, a wooden deck with huge flowing river. Drinks were fairly cheap, Castle Draught R16.00. Food was reasonably priced and reasonable to eat, nothing special but there was a huge crowd which could have hampered the quality, obviously all flocking to see Mean Mr Mustard.
The band had a monumental amount of equipment that took 3 or 4 roadies? about an hour to unpack from their trailer.
Just to put the record straight I had never heard MMM live and was only exposed to some limited airplay some years back, but did notice that there seemed to be a new Lead Singer, Andries Botha who doubled up on Lead Guitar as well.
They started off with 'Build me Up' which I had heard on the radio and then proceeded to play their own original material which sounded like music from 80's "B" action movies. Very energetic and must have played an hour long set, which had a Queen medley which I thought was quite brave, the volume was huge, and I was quite glad we were sitting outside on the deck.
Their Musicianship was great, but I was a bit dissapointed at the material, and their delivery was bit unsinspring, hardly any chemistry with the audience at all.
But maybe this is how they handle gigs at restuarants, I saw a lot of 'Lang Arm' dancing which was a bit scary to say the least
But I am a noob at Live Music having stayed away since the 80's but am enjoying it hugely again. Last couple of months I have seen Crowded House, U2, Springbok Nude Girls, Arno Carstens, X-rated Bob and hoping to still get around a bit ?
