Go check out the band "symphony X", they're my favourite, i listened to their album"Paradise lost " for 2 months straight without getting bored.

Very talented musos and great vocalist, kind a proggresive power metal genre.

I'm a BIG, BIG symphony X fan. They are just FANTASTIC. I have the Odyssey, Divine wings of tragedy and Paradise lost. They made a great impact on me.

Necrophagist have a pretty big neo classical influence but it's Tech Death.

Are you turned off by metal that has screaming vocals ? Sadly that is the biggest cause of people not liking metal lately.

The thing that turns me off metal honestly is the abundance of consistency and lack of dynamics.

Bands like Beneath the Massacre where the drummer has absolutely no feel and every hit sounds like the same velocity. Too mechanical.
Divine Heresy is up there as well as Fear Factory and Machine Head and well..dragon force.

Metal bands that have over enough feel in their music that I find are the only metal bands i can listen to.

Behemoth <---some might disagree but for the latest album, everything except the kick isn't triggered. So what he hit..you hear.
Gojira
Mastodon.

There are others but I'm being specific (or am I)

I find myself listening to Jazzier music more.
Pat Metheny
Guthrie Govan etc
Tons of feel ?

No I wouldn't say that is it I mean I am a HUGE Devin Townsend fan and he screams ALOT. I am now listening to his "Ziltoid the Omniscient" and I love that. I am not big on death vocals I would say. I think what I am always looking out for is LOTS of innovation on harmony, melody and time signature. That really attracts me and alot of metal bands seem to lack those elements (and that is not wrong, it's just not my thing). I dunno, does that make sense?

Definitely Opeth. Nice clean vocals and death vocals... Plus they mix the two perfectly as in " Masters Apprentice".

Opeth are masters of all! They have such a great composition.

I buy alot of Metal mags, and the cd's that come with em are pretty decent. Metal Hammer always puts a smile on my face! ?

Amorphis is a new favourite of mine, give their album "silent waters" a listen!

If you are a fan of the more Death Metal sound, check out the SA band Child! I quite like them!

Betray The Emissary is also pretty good if you like the screamo style of metal. 8)

Amorphis are bloody well gods in my opinion. Damn I love that band! Certainly worth checking out every one of their album! Freakin amazing! From Death metal to Psychadelic prog stuff to rock to metal! Underated by miles! Amazing! Kudos to you!

Aah, Child are quite original regarding their sound, I co-produced them. But they're Black Metal not Death Metal ?

Where are they based? I have never heard of them and i'm always at gigs when SariFist, Erebus, Warthane are playing as well as most of the death/black metal bands. Just never seen child at any of these events.
