Not really. The few I've seen have been cheap entry-level instruments.

As Alan said, cheap entry level guitars,I however got a classical ritmuller when I was first starting out, and five years later its still playable,tho it practically is my bash and beat up guitar...

good is all relative if youre totally a beginner and looking on a budget.

i would.. if this the case and the ritmuller is more than R1000 then it would not be worthwhile as you could find higher quality instruments for maybe a couple of hundred rand more.

if its less.. it may worthwhile to see if you like guitar.

i would recommend checking out squier.. CORT.. some ibanez .. YAMAHA PACIFICA etc.

they offer better bang for buck. then scour junkmail and gumtree for 2nd hand.

even our classified has some good alternatives at times

They are pretty bad guitars, and you can get far better as a biginner guitar.......
I wold never recomend one to a guitarist

If it's cheap and plays ok, then so be it, by cheap I mean R200-R300. I would however rather recommend a used Cort, Ibanez-Gio or even a Dean for under R1000. For R1000 - R1500 you can get something that is even better and it will give you years of good service.

Perfect example of this is my Ibanez ARX300 that I bought, R1100-00. Fine it needed a serious set-up, but now it's a treat.

The bargains are out there and it's a buyers market.

Don't be in a rush.

Ritmuller have got competition now ( form the same place Cash Crusaders ) in the form of "First Act"
By comparison the Ritmuller is a Gibson!
To start off the Cort guitars are good value and when set up are playable.
There are thousands on the second hand market.

not really although good is a relative term. although i have a ritmuller guitar (the strat rip-off that i bought at cash crusaders) and that is still after 5 years my favourite guitar

I am still really surprised with how good it sounds considering what i paid for it and i do put that guitar through some punishment it must be said

Since getting that guitar i have acquired 'high-end' guitars but i still end up going back to that guitar when i am looking for a single coil sound.

One Word - No!!!
They are part of the market that mass produces instruments for quantity and not quality.

But a guy I knew had one - he was technically clueless on the hardware side but a excellent guitarist.
He loved the guitar and he sounded amazing when he played it

well yeah. i am pretty clueless on the hardware and all the dynamics that makes a guitar a good guitar. but all i'm saying is even though my ritmuller obviously has inferior wood and hardware it still does what i want it to

There are so many better options, for a cheap guitar, I actually suggest you save around R1000 before you buy anything, or else you come away with junk usually... not always....

Just do your research and dont think because its cheaper you can somehow justify it being a great deal..... its not..... Get a used Squire, or Yamaha, or even an SX..... they are all better

That was a 5 minute search, if you up your budget to R1500, that includes a WHOLE lot more. Also don't be afraid to offer what you feel is a fair price. My last RG that I bought was the only guitar that I have actually paid the full asking price on.

Best option without a shadow of doubt - Find a used Yamaha on Gumtree
Usually around R1000 - they sound great , you may keep it for life as a beater!!

Its worth going up to R1500 really really really....... you will get a better guitar

Yeah MIKA, that extra R500 even opens up the guitars in the R1700-R1800 price range and many are willing to bargain a bit.

Now buying a ritmuller guitar kinda seems like a sin don't it?

If it says Pearl River, Ritmuller or Sunny on the headstock you're generally better off spending your money on fireworks ...
2 thumbs up to the Cort, Yamaha, Ibanez & Squier on 2nd hand suggestions - far better percentage of decently built examples.

All brands have their shining moments with quality control and their golden turds, but 9 times out of 10 you'll be better off avoiding the first 3 I mentioned above.

Johnson used to be the same thing for me, but even their standards improved - all companies are capable of improvement - SX also have their ups & downs.

It's best to get a clued up techie/player/friend to come with you and judge the individual example on offer for what it is - the second hand market has endless optios on offer!
