Tightening classifieds rules. Opinions?

I'm thinking of tightening the rules in classifieds considerably. Specifically pertaining to responses, basically only allowing posts directly to do with the sale or the item being sold. This means: - No "wish I could afford it but I can't" posts. - No peripheral discussion on the merits of some feature over another (I figure if you want more info on this kind of thing, start a thread elsewhere on the forum - that's what the rest of the forum is for). - Additional info from third parties will still be allowed as will personal endorsements of the model or specific instrument being sold. Basically I'm trying to cut down on off-topic stuff, while still allowing 3rd party posts that might help the sale. Does that sound reasonable?

I am very very VERY rarely rude, and you know it. This thread has somehow devolved into finger pointing at attitudes and post counts and 'noise', none of which has ANYTHING to do with the subject. This is about what the seller wants and what the buyer wants. Ive yet to see consensus on the former and there is a lot of speculation on the latter, most of which is a load of sophistry and rubbish about scaring buyers off. KAK! You either want and can afford something or you cannot and no banter is going to put you off unless you have some SERIOUS stamina issues.

I'm under no illusion at all that anybody has to conform to my expectations. I've never said so, so it's a bit of a red herring to tell me about this irony that isn't there in the first place.

Edit: We don't need to reach consensus, only offer our opinion and leave the thread. The poor brave souls running the site will take thoughts into consideration and make changes as they see fit.

Imagine this

1) X-Rated Bob places and advert for a yoyoworks skunkblaster - good price too
2) Stratisfear knows or has good grounds for suspecting that it's a lemon and XRB is deliberately ripping somebody off.
3) Stratisfear replies saying "beware! It's a lemon. I jammed with XRB last week and he has that pedal but it doesn't actually work."
4) X-Rated Bob promptly deletes this well-motivated warning.

The only moderation that is good here, it seems to me, is self-moderation. Stay out unless you have something positive to add to the thread.

I'd be all for it. As long as it's restricted to the classifieds.

@Bob - in your example, Stratisfear could PM me with the same grounds and I'd take action against the dastardly XRB.
I agree on self-moderation, but it's a bit of a pipe dream I'm afraid. Some don't have the self-awareness or in some cases the empathy needed to self moderate. I've had members respond to deletions with "I knew you would, but I had to get my 2c in anyway".

There are two sides to this issue- those who give a damn and those wot dont. Maybe if I had lots of equipment to sell, id feel differently about it. Until then... I'll simply stay in character. ?

Well, if the post is deleted, and the pedal is sold, it will still come out(eventually) that XRB is a dishonest cheating @#$#$%$%#@(whatever that spells) ? and we'll have much more fun chewing popcorn watching the fallout thread from the sale ? ?

Only loser there is Stratisfear, 'cause now no-one will now he was the good guy

EDIT: Just in case someone mi-interprets this post, it isn't an insulting angry, etc, etc. post aimed at Bob.

I think it is a good idea.
Also l think the seller should have a certain amount of posts before he/she should be allowed to post in the for sale section.
I don't mind if people comment on my for sale threads, it only bumps it to the top.

Unfortunately there are people out to say bad things about the stuff you are selling, so would be good if you can moderate your own for sale thread!
