Tone

Hey guys

This guitar has always fasinated me and I have not yet been able to speak to someone in SA who owns one! I'm talking bot the Gretsch White Falcon. I have watched many demos and read tons of reviews and everyone has sung this beauties praises! Has anyone on the forum owned one of the Gretsch White or Silver Falcons? At first I thought this guitar was only used for Rockabilly but I have recently heard loads of other styles being played with this guitar.

I have recently become aware of the rich tones and increased variety of tones that I am able to get from semi-hollow and hollow-body guitars. Is anyone on the forum a semi-hollow/hollow-body fanatic...? ?

I looooove semi-hollows and hollows. Would love a Gretsch, 330, 335. But yea have to prioritise. Getting a cheapy very soon. Not much tops a semi hollow with P90s ?

very true! i just bought a week ago this 54 harmony and it blows away my fender tele
Tone is incredible... and unbelievable the different tones you get out it (probably because this guitar is fitted with early gibson p13s) And early means early forties

It sounds brilliant with my TS9 which I alsmost never used on my tele

just go for it and you cant go wrong with a gretsch

Wow, sure is purty! The couple of solids and semi's I've tried out all sounded awesome (I always plug into the worst amp a store has to offer, just to make sure there's only guitar magic to be had). My only problem has been the necks, have yet to find a neck that's comfortable for me (that said I've only tried 3 or 4 out)...

well, the neck on my harmony is also nicked "the baseball bat"... it is a real gigantic piece of wood.
And since I have big hands, I really enjoy it a lot more then on regular necks....(and i was thinking the neck on mky avri was already "chuncky")

Funny enough this is the guitar featured in the march page of the calendar i have pinned up in my cubicle at work ....i look adoringly at it .... never actually bothered to find out but what do these run at? (as a matter of interest as i get the feeling i cant afford it anyway)

I know Bothners stocks a small range, but not the Falcon!

Full retail in the US is about $5000, but you can pick them up new for as little as $3500. Buying locally... well... it's via Fender so the usual inflated pricing will probably apply.

IIRC, One of the Chet Atkins model Gretsches has similar specs (but isn't white) for a lot lower price.

Wasn't the original Gretsch White Falcon the most expensive guitar in the universe at the time of its release?

Stephen Stills and Neil Young have both used White Falcons with CSNY. Can't say on which particular tracks, but Neil wasn't born holding on to "Old Black".

I saw it listed on a european online store for the nice price of 9,999.00 EURO, roughly

I saw one advertised in Japan for under R20K. It's definitely possible to get a Falcon for that kind of price. I like 'em, but I don't think they're really me.
