There is a lot of midi files on the net, just keep searching
Remember, you have to edit most midis in Sonar, Cakewalk, etc to optimize it for your soundcard, softsynth, even your PA. So no shortcuts there.
All my bactracks are midi. I've been searching / collecting them for about six years, so here's the benefit of my "favourites" tab: ?
Sites I scan for Top 40 (new stuff):

http://www.midimole.com/
http://freshmidis.uni.cc/index.php?pid=10
There are some great midi search engines (where you type in name of song / artist and you're linked to multiple files):
In my view, the best are:
http://www.midisite.co.uk/
http://www.vanbasco.com/midisearch.html
http://inter-search.co.uk/midi/
http://www.musicrobot.com/
Then there are sites with huge archives of free files, divided into pop, classic rock, etc. Some of the best:

http://www.angelfire.com/ok/francisyeow/midi.html
http://www.garyrog.50megs.com/midi1.html
http://www.freewebjunk.com/midi/
http://tinpan.fortunecity.com/parton/949/pop_m.htm
http://www.free-midi.org/
And then there is, in my view, one of the sites with the biggest archives, and best sounding files, but you have to pay. Makes sense, doesn't it?

Alternatively, start swapping files with other gigging musos. That's how most of us start.
Hope this helps. ?
