Mrs X-Rated and I are gearing up for a change of house. So we've been digging through cupboards and containers and finding large amounts of books, CDs, clothing and all sorts of other stuff that we don't use and which we don't want to have to schlep to the new Chez X-Rated.
You may well have lots of bric-a-brac in your own place of residence.
Many charities run shops and bazaars to raise funds and can use decent condition 2nd hand items. We're giving a lot of stuff to Hospice for sale in their shop. They even have a music section, so one benefit of this morning's clean out will be 40 or so CDs - all in good condition, in the original packaging - headed for the Hospice shop. We also pass on to them all the books we're not taking.
So... better than just throwing it out. I could take those CDs up to the local 2nd-hand CD shop and get maybe a tenner a piece for the ones they think they can move quickly and they'll do me a favour with the rest, but I'd rather let a charity make some money out of this (there's some Black Crowes and the first Counting Crows in there in case you feel like rushing over to the Hospice shop to spend some money also Neil Young "Unplugged" - I somehow had two of those).
So there's some good that can come out of the stuff you don't want and that is cluttering up your home. Don't just throw it out - let it make some money for a good cause.

This may sound a little wierd but last year I was very much involved with sorting out the whole thing around a relative who died. At the end I took a few car loads of her stuff to hospice. Round about the same time there was a book I was trying to get hold of at the library - 'The Red Tent', Anita Diamant. I had it on order. So after offloading the stuff on one of my journeys I walk into the hospice shop and lo and behold, there it is. For R10! A gift.
The following load I took a week or two later and back into the hospice shop I go and here is the only Paulo Coelho book I hadn't read - 'Veronika decides to die' I think it was a bout R5! Another gift.
I don't know but I think I hooked into something special there, as I take my reading pretty seriously! ?
